I just bought a used hp pavillion 5000z. It was a showroom model. It keeps shutting down. Sometimes after I am already into my internet Tand sometimes while it is starting up, The start repair first said I needed a modem driver. I installed the recommended one but the problem persists. Now the start repair says it doesnt know what the problem is.

NO OS told if new is window 10 or 11. many stores sell old PCs even 10 years old as new. and in fine print shows it is a REFURB what I call dust off PC's
the cause is huge, but here are macro reasons less 1-PC is corrupted, infected. in vast ways really. 2-PC has too much junk in startup files. 3-PC HDD bad. (failing fast and self corrupting ALL) 4 - hdd full? (some have small HDD and fill up fast)

2018 and still running DEAD VISTA.
all support is gone on XP and VISTA now.
google and hp says no TX200, TX2000 yes
did you skip 1 zero? if yes why, that make help 1000x harder.
shut down has nothing to do with hdd cleanups ever.
nor the broswer, ever
its power issue, only.
i presume you forgot to say LAPTOP?
answering for TX2000 now a laptop.
the all time #1 reason for any laptop to shut down by self.
is overheating
ever clean all lint out of this old PC>?
HP Pavilion tx2000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC
this is listed on HP unsupported page, all TX are now dead PCs.
it is 10 years old, 2008 made , mostly.
test 1; does the fan run? are all vents clear.
test 2: does PC stay running with that old shorted huge battery removed. running on AC pack only. does it?
if it does not run at all the AC pack is dead. now.
if it runs great the battery is bad as all are this old. no battery lasts for 10 years, bringing us now to battery #2
test 3: get that old RTC coin cell out of the PC now. its NO GOOD.
if not cured yet.
my guess is you have things inside or attached to PC (USB:)
that are shorted.
all models in any PC up to 10 modules of any kind can in fact short.
if they do the PSU (regs) overload and the SHUTS OFF
the prevents fire and prevents need for silly fuses.
in fact the regs are smart fuses (dynamic) inside.

Hi,
If it shows the bios on your screen....
Try to go the bios setting and make check the "default operation" and save upon exit.
Check the Motherboard, if there are swollen/bulging capacitor on the board, replace it.
If there are no bios whatsoever, sad to say, problem will be the board already......usually the bios chip that breaks down.
Try to use another power supply, sometimes the power supply is the culprit of the boards problem.
Hope that helps you out!
Hi
At some point if you can get the computer to stay up for a while, you should go into control panel and check your
POWER settings. The other thing you should try if you haven't already is to shut the computer off and pull out the battery. Then after a minute re-install the battery and see
if that helps.
Good Luck
Joe
ps: If I come up with any ideas I will post.
1- Scanning computer to eliminate malwares, spywares and the viruses from your laptop.
2- Repairing and cleaning Windows registry.
These two tips are found to be very helpful to fix the laptop shutdown problem. Almost all the computer users surf internet which could result in viruses attacking your system. Some of these infections are really pesky and cause the machines to shutdown randomly.
The registry errors, however, are the internal errors and can become a cause of system crashes and freezes. The registry keys shall be in good health to keep a system perfect.
When I noticed my laptop keeps shutting down everytime, I tested the Intel Software Partner, RegInOut to fix the random shutdown problem with my laptop.
I have just tried to fix on of these.
Shuts down for no reason, the more you try and use it,the quicker it shuts down.
I cleaned the fans, refitted the heatsink and CPU, cleared out all virus/malware infections, thought i had fixed it, it ran for 1 hour in safe mode.
I rebooted and it shut down after 5 minutes.
It seems this model is prone to damage to some solder joints after overheating.
You can fix the solder, but it just breaks it again after about 3 months.
You may get it working longer if you use a laptop cooler stand.
My advice is to sell it for spares and get shut
Hi,
Most of the times, windows Vista has the drivers required for the printer. The problem is that sometimes it could be bugged.
I strongly suggest that you install the HP drivers from the Hp.com website (install CDs would do the trick)
Be sure you install the Windows Vista drivers and it should show up just fine.
If you are already using the latest drivers from HP let me know.
