Epson 1280 red lines on photo

My E1280 puts red lines all over my great photos. Any ideas? I have horizontal red parallel lines spaced about 1/8" apart and have tried everything!  I called Epson about service in my area and they were of no real help.  I only use Epson printer inks and would like to repair or replace this 1280 as it has been good over the years. Or find a similar Epson product. I would rather not go for the multiple in cartridges.  Any suggestions?

I tried this myself and it did not help the problem at all. Good thought, though, as the photo paper is sometimes thicker than normal.

I have the same problem but it is intermittent. It does it for photos but not for other printing. It also comes and goes. It isn't a cleaning issue as a test page or a nozzle check are both fine. I feel its a software issue. I was even wondering if it was linked to Vista which we recently installed and the problem has come since then. Cheers.

My 1280 has a similar problem, great looking prints with intermittent blue lines printed over the photos. Even when printing black and white the blue lines appear

I have the same problem - red lines all over the page, from 1/32 to 1 inch apart. I tried all suggestions and nothing works. Have also removed a half used color cartridge and replaced it with a new one - same problem. The printer is about 7 years old and has worked well until a week ago. Is this the point of planned obsolescence?

I have the "blue line" problem. The color is right, the print looks good but the small blue lines are all over the print. Doesn't show up on regular paper only photo paper. I've cleaned, checked new printer profiles and made sure that only photoshop Adobe RGB is controling the print colors. I don't see that anyone has posted a solution.

I tried FixitDan's solution prior to reading his post and it seemed to minimize the problem, in that it does not happen as often, but still happens. Looks like there is something "dragging" on the printhead itself, or perhaps the firmware is firing the nozzle at the wrong time. In any event, can the print head be replaced easily on the 1280? As others have mentioned, this has been a really great printer for the past seven years.

Suggestion:   Open up the "hood". All the way on the right side of the top of the plastic case, you'll see a large switch.   Switch it up from "0" to "1".  This will give the paper a little more room and might help.

Do nozzle check. Is it perfect? If only one or two nozzle missing, it must be "good result" in photo quality mode printing. But if, there is too much nozzle missing, result is no good. If nozzle check is perfect, but the result is not satisfied, check the PF scale and PF scale sensor.

Getting blue horizontal lines through all docs and photos. Just replaced both black and color cartridges.

Blue or red lines that go across the page and outside the printed area usually depict a Main board fault.

Horizontal lines (red) on first 1 - 2 pages of initial print-out

Do you refill ink tank? Print blank pages. Is there horizontal lines appear? It might be caused bay ink leakage. Check respiratory hole at ink tank and rubber seal at bottom of ink tank. Print blank pages until no horizontal lines and try to use new ink tank.

One of the best possible solution that we can suggest is to run a cleaning cycle for three times. Just to make sure that cleaning is effective please try the step below:

1. Using your computer go to printer utility.
2. Click on Maintenance then select Head Cleaning. Head cleaning usually took 1 minute.
3. Once the Head Cleaning is done Print a nozzle pattern to check whether the head cleaning is effective or not.

Repeat those steps for 3 times. If the nozzle pattern after 3 cleaning cycles still bad. Reseat ink cartridge if possible replace the ink cartridges.

After all those steps and issue still present printer needs to be in service.
