HP Wireless Assistant

Hello, I'm hoping someone can help me. I am using a HP Presairo F500 Laptop, model: GF596UAR#ABA. I've had no problems/issues using the integrated wireless feature until yesterday, when for no apparent reason I lost all wireless connectivity. I cannot even launch the HP Wireless Assistant to troubleshoot. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I just had the same problem with my wife's HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop.

It was working fine, then just stopped recognizing the wireless card. My daughter had been using it, so I was in doubt as to what had/hadn't been done to it software-wise (virus?). So I ran the complete recover to restore everything to the state when it was new.

Still can't recognize the wireless. The indicator light stays orange no matter which position the switch is in.

So I google "HP dv6000" looking for a manual, and the FIRST thing I find is a Recall notice http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01087277 Yeah, I know, they're covering their butts by calling it a
"Limited Warranty Service Enhancement" but they basically know that these machines were defective from the date of manufacure. They told me that my machine didn't qualify for the free service because it was 9 months past the warranty extension and tried to get me to shell out $250 for a new mother board.

Maybe I'll try the external wireless card solution, but it sounds like the MB will probably go bad next. I've owned a bunch of HP computers (have four of them working in the house right now) but I'll probably be looking at Dell next time around.

Check that it hasn't been Disabled/Turned OFF or the like... Find it in Device Manager and "Update" the Driver, see if that helps.

Try to check in the control panel if the hp wireless assistant is enabled or disabled. If it is disabled try to enable it. Check with the wireless button is turned or not. If it is turned it should be in blue colour. Try to shut down the laptop and remove all accesssories and also the a/c adapter. Press and hold the power button of the laptop for 30 secons inorder to remove the static electricity. Then turn off and turn on the wireless button. Hope this will work
Thanks and Regards
Honey

Power problem power is not on

Hello. The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty. If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem. The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable. If no change, your compaq f500 power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.Hope this helps.

Hi there I have a compaq presairo F500 and the wireless internet switch at the front of the computer is not working, its not picking up any wireless connections. the light stays amber, its not picking up...

Some HP computers I've seen recently, and Compaq is owned by HP, had an issue where the wireless card was not soldered down correctly. Over time the general wear and tear laptop computers face caused this wireless card to slowly work its way out, disconnecting it from the computer.
I would contact Compaq, or Best buy (depending where you bought it) and check if your warranty is still good. If it is, they should fix this for you. Otherwise your next best option is to buy a USB wifi adapter from www.newegg.com, or www.amazon.com. It is unfortunately not possible for you to re-solder the wireless card in unless if you are very comfortable with working with delicate electronics.

Hp compaq f500 gf596uar windows 7 - my wireless is not working...i try with other os buth nothing. Sorry for my english

Hello, Assuming there are wireless networks in range. I would suggest the wireless network on the Laptop has been switched OFF. Look on the front of the laptop for the wireless switch and make sure it is set to the ON position. Once on an ICON on the sttus bar should come on for you to search and log on to the available wireless networks in range.

I hope this solves your problem you are eperiencing.

See photos for location of the switch.

Hp wireless assistant please give me a fix for the orange/blue light issue

Ok. THIS IS THE FIRST SIGN YOUR LAPTOP IS GOING TO FAIL. I have this exact same laptop and the exact same issue except that mine has already died. Go to hplies.com and you will see almost 2,000 users with the same issue. The problem lies with the nVIDIA GFX chip on the motherboard. THE ISSUE IS UNREPAIRABLE. Any repairs will force the laptop to fail again.

This issue has actually landed me in small claims court where I am suing for hte full cost of this laptop because not only is hte laptop defective, nVIDIA admitted it, and HP covered it up.

Join us at hplies.com and we will give you the know how to get this issue fixed/your $ back. We even have links to all of the information!

you could download the drivers and reinstall them and if spyware doctor and win defender are registered you can always retrieve them.
after doing this I would consider installing norton antivirus or norton 360..I use norton 360 on all my machines.

This is a problem with most Compaq Laptops in the F500 series, and as such, HP has extended their warranty on all affected models, so you should contact them and they should repair it free of charge with 1-2 weeks. If you bought it from a high-street retailer, such as PC World, then you should take it to them and they should be aware of the situation and repair it for you.
