Question about Kodak EasyShare 12.0-Megapixel Digital Camera - Black

1 Answer

The lens retracts and the camera powers off after turning it on

Whenever I turn my camera to camera or video mode, it acts as if it will come on, but immediately turns off and the lens retracts. The camera works in the Favorites mode, which will only show pictures in Review, but won't do anything in the other modes.

I have charged the battery, removed the battery, removed the memory card, etc. but nothing works. Any ideas?

Hey bls_bls,
You could try cleaning the battery contacts, and if that doesn't work you could try a new battery. If your camera still doesn't work I would have it looked at by an authorized service technician. You could bring it to a Geek Squad® precinct in a Best Buy™ store and they should be able to send it to an authorized service center. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Canon Powershot a610 dropped, lens stuck half way, won't move, gives E18 whenever one puts it in the mode to take a picture, no view through lens. Is the camera toast?

Hello there,
The E18 error is related to the LENS not able to retract fully. If it is still under warranty, I would advise you bring it to the nearest service center. This is to avoid further damages. Otherwise, you can try a few things below.
There are a couple of things you can do.
1. Turn it on and then off. Spray canned air around the lens.
If trick 1 will not work out, try this.
2. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Turn on the camera and then give it a couple of firm whacks on the side. Make sure nothing is blocking the lens and wait for it to fully retract.
Let me know how it goes.

It turn the power on and on again and nothing happens

This is a common problem for all Sony Cybershot digital cameras. It is saying the error "Access" because whenever you turn it on, the camera finds it hard to retract and open out the lens. Chances are, there is some sand or maybe dust or dirt of These are few things you can do.

You can blow a compressed air on the camera's lens to try to take off the dirt or granule of sand stuck within the lens. Also, you can try to hold the camera from your right hand with the lens facing the ground and hit the camera's base on your left palm. Do this several times.

Let me know if this helped you. Goodluck!

Lens will not retract

When the lens will not retract and camera is not functional (no picture on display, and does not shoot) , and you already tried replacing batteries with a new fresh set (ensure please) , and then restarting camera with no memory card inside, then camera is faulty.

Try an easy fix by pushing gently the lens (do not force them, just help them) while you turn off camera at same time. Try also switching the mode selector.

If still no luck , then the camera must be disassembled to fix the problem.

Possible reasons are :

  • Faulty lens mechanism or jammed lens (camera usually turns off by itself in this case)
  • Main board faulty.
  • Ribbon cable to main board broken or connector defective.
  • If there is no power at all it is the connector from batteries to main board, this is also a ribbon cable.

If the camera is less than one year old will be replaced by manufacturer.

If your warranty is expired you can get an estimate for repair from manufacturer, or from a third party like Advance Camera here :Advance Camera Repair you can book the repair online.
