Question about HP DeskJet 3550 InkJet Printer

Printer will not turn on

When i try to turn printer on, the power light flicks on three times then turns off. the power cable is connected right, and so is the usb cable, The printer was working fine last time we used it a week ago.

    Printer wont do anything ... It has ink and paper is plugged in and when I try to turn it on the light flashes 3 times and then goes off and wont do anything .

    My printer hp deskjet 3940 does not turn on. Cable checked OK, adapter is ok. Checked poer is coming upto printer but printer is not turning on. please suggest how to check the internals.

    I have exaltly the same problem. Printer fine when used it last, then unplugged it and when plugged it back in it doesn't turn on. Everything seems fine but just won't turn on.

    Unlpugged all computer gear from power whilst away for a few days. Now power light will not come up on printer.

Some products require time to turn on. These products might or might not give feedback in the form of blinking light(s). Prints test copy every time I switch it on.

All right so you are getting print test copy every time you turn on or switch on your printer. You can follow the following steps to fix this issue:-

1.. Turn off the printer and wait 10 seconds. Turn it on again

2. Let the printer print the test page.

3. After the test page is printed, disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer to your computer. DO NOT turn off the printer while disconnecting the USB cable.

4. Place the test page on the scanner glass and press the SCAN button on the printer. The ON light will flash as the page is being scanned.

5. Remove the test page when the ON light is steady.

6. Finally, turn off the printer and wait another 10 seconds. Then turn it on again. No more printing test pages! Yay!

(You may now reconnect the printer to your computer via the USB cable.)

Hi! you can try this. rightclick to open all active printers in right downcorner there click the printer section and remove the x mark in use the printer in offline. you can allso check that your default printer is right not example the hpxxxxxxx (copy 1)

Are you using the ethernet connection or a USB connection? If you are using USB, do you have the printer connected to a hub or directly to the computer? Does changing the cable to a different USB port get the computer to see the printer? If you are using a USB port in a hub, try a direct connection. Does the USB hub have power-transformer or is it powered by the computer? Printers are extremely sensitive to losing data when the cable run is too long or the USB hub has too many devices attached (particularly when powered by the computer). Also try a new USB cable. An additional troubleshooting test: turn off your printer for 30 seconds, unplug both sides of the USB cable and see if it is found when you plug it back in and turn it on.

If you are using an ethernet connection, check the cables for both the printer and the computer. Also try plugging the cables into different ports on your router or switch. I'm assuming you have your network working and have a IP address (if your network gives dynamic addresses). You might try repairing the network connection (right click on the network icon in the system tray in XP or Vista).

If these ideas do not help, I'm not sure what is causing your problem.. I hope this helps.

I have a hp 1150 printer after initiallizing all 3 lights r on. What might b the problem.

I went to the HP web site. If the three lights are blinking in turn, the printer is still trying to initialize or clear a previous job. If all of the lights are on but not blinking, you should turn off the printer and then turn it back on. If that doesn't help, turn it off and unplug it for 5 minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on. If the printer still gives an error, contact HP. If the three lights are blinking simultaneously, you have a memory error. However, the DIMMs are not replaceable on the HP 1150, if I understand correctly.

I hope this helps. (Please note: on many USB printers, it is useful to unplug the USB cable from both the printer and the computer, as well as unplugging the power cable when attempting to clear an error.)

My aio dell 926 printer will not turn on

Before connecting the USB cable to the pc, start on installing the driver first. It wll prompt then to connect the USB cable. Be sure to connect it at the back of the tower. Sometimes high powered devices will not get enough power if it's connect on the front panel of the pc. If same issue, go to Device Manager under System in Control Panel. Under Universal Serial Bus, ther are several USB Root Hub. Right click each one of them and check Properties. Click on Power Management. Untick "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save powe" . Once it's all done, restart the pc and try to install again the printer. Hope this helps.

Printer will not turn on

Check power source. Also, if you have a voltmeter, check the power going into the printer. If all is good there, unplug the printer from the computer and try to power it on. If it powers up while not connected to the computer, this could indicate a problem with the USB cable or the port on the computer. Try another cable or available port (if you have one). If the printer is connected via an external USB hub, try connecting it directly to the computer instead. If none of these work, post back here & I'll assist you further.

  1. Disconnect the power supply from the back of the printer.
  2. Open the front cover of the printer where the cartridges are located.
  3. Look for two black bands that span from left to right (they should have one serrated side and one smooth side). Just above the black bands there is a transparent strip; this strip is called the Encoder strip.
  4. Flick this strip lightly with your finger to make sure that it is running smoothly from left to right. You may need to do this two or three times. CAUTION: Do not pull the strip!
  5. Close the front cover of the printer and reconnect the power supply.

Light doesn't turn blue at all

Plug it into another computer if possible, clear ALL files on it.
You must of been sending something to it when you flicked the switch, they would normally go off straight away.

(Backup on the other computer first)

If this does not work then you may want to see if you can see a usb stick in your USB ports. If you can it's a fault with the harddrive, nothing else you can do.

Flashing red light on display

1st step - print a self test report Press and hold the OK button. Then press the left arrow key one time. Release the OK button. The test page prints OR Press the OK and Help keys simultaneously. The test page prints print the test pages 4 time minimum 2nd step - reset the printer If the printer is not off, press the Power button to turn it off. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer. Unplug the universal serial bus (USB) cable from the back of the printer, if connected. Wait 30 seconds, then plug the power cord back into the printer. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet. Press the Power button to turn the printer on. Ensure that the memory card has been removed from the memory card slot. Make sure plain paper is loaded in the In Tray. Hold down the OK button and press the Right arrow button four times. If the test page prints, re-connect the USB cable to the printer. OR IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO DO SO THEN start - printers & faxes - click on the printer icon highlighted with a correct symbol ( ensure the proper printer is highlighted )- right click on the icon - properties - print test page option at the bottom of the properties screen. 3rd step - if the USB is connected to a USB Hub then disconnect it from the HUB and connect it directly to the wall socket.Make sure the USB cord is of the proper measurement as mentioned for the printer in the User Manual. 4th step - visit left side of the screen you shall see an option SOFTWARE & DRIVERS DOWNLOAD click on that in the next screen a tab comes up mentioning FOR PRODUCT enter PHOTOSMART D 5160 and hit enter / click on the arrow beside it choose the OS under DRIVER YOU HAVE OPTIONS LIKE - » HP Basic Driver (recommended) » HP Full Software and Driver (before downloading it uninstall the s/w & then download it )-DO THIS ONLY IF THE 1ST OPTION DOES NOT MAKE THE PRINTER FUNCTION FINE STILL ERROR PERSISTS : - replace if under warranty/service the printer in the service centre
