My car is a nissan micra wont start the engine is trying to turn over but wont roar into life it nearly does then cuts out any suggestions to remedy this

Have you had a battery disconnect recently? Did you try resetting the the security system and engine immobilizer?

I suggest you double check the valve timing and then check the spark timing with a strobe to make sure the spark is happening roughly where it should.

When you are certain everything is as it should be per repair manual I suggest you ensure the spark plugs are clean and dry, withdraw the fuel pump fuse and then attempt to start with the throttle well opened.
Do not crank for more than ten seconds and then rest for ten seconds to avoid over-stressing the starter gear. If the car is similar to some I have some experience of the engine should soon show signs of life and could even start for a second or two and then die. It will be then time to refit the fuse and start the engine for real, not forgetting to open the throttle quite a bit.

If all else fails try a brief squirt from an ether spray. If the engine doesn't fire using ether there is something fundamentally wrong and it will be time to go back to basics and recheck everything.

Likely to be either the solenoid sticking on the starter motor.
If not could simply be the solenoid starter wire with a loose or poor connection?
Locate the starter and then when you try to start listen to see if making clicking noise? If so rather than rock car back and forth try tapping top of solenoid (smaller cylinder part of starter motor) if then jumps into life then likely to be solenoid sticking.
If however you dont get a clicking noise you will notice a small wire connected to solenoid on starter try wiggling this wire and make sure hasnt got either a break or poor connection.

Not an expert on non-us Nissans, but there should be a clutch switch to prevent you from cranking the engine in gear.
I would check the circuit with that switch.

Either battery or starter. Have you tried to jump it? I'd check battery power and if thats not it check the starter. If your battery is the prob you might want to make sure your alternator is working properly also. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a fuel issue if you have run it dry, maybe a blocked fuel filter, or maybe it needs new spark plugs, check the air filter as well.
