Hmmm, I'd suggest that your PC "may" have screen issues.
Try connecting an external monitor & then re-start the PC.

Fine red lines on screen

Redlines usually mark for a failing part.

You don't mention if this lcd is used from external source or just as a plain tv. I would suggest trying different input port if hdmi is used.

Possibilities: faulty external cable, faulty input port, faulty internal cable, faulty internal board or connection, faulty screen

I would like to boot a toshiba satellite m105-s30401 with an external monitor as the laptop screen is busted and i would like to use an external monitor until i get a replacement screen, how do i get

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key a few times. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

The screen on my toshiba satellite a135-s2386 has a red hue for the second that it remains on during start up. It will display fine on an external monitor. If an external monitor is not connected, and you...

This sounds like a problem with the back light. The back light is generally a small cool fluorescent light. The problem could be with either the fluorescent light or the inverter board that supplies the voltage to run the lamp. If you are able to disassemble it yourself you can usually buy an inverter and lamp online. This requires a good amount of dis-assembly and expertise but costs less. At a higher price but less expertise is a complete lcd display including frame and covers. This basically just requires removal of the top cover of the laptop to access the screws that hold the display on and access to the cables.

Best of luck, Jim

My Toshiba Quasimo has red vertical lines running down the screen and it will only start up in SAFE MODE. I've been told by several people that its the motherboard graphics card. Is this the case and if so...

Plug the computer into an external monitor. If the picture is normal the screen on the laptop needs replacing. If there are lines on the external monitor then its the motherboard.
Welcome to Toshiba

Last night my Toshiba's screen turned white with a few red and yellow stripped lines. Than the white filled in with black over night. Now the screen is blank, the power button won't turn it off only on....

HI There,

I'm a pro laptop repair/rebuild tech. If you own an external regular computer monitor or even a friend who does, connect the laptop to the external monitor and power it on. Your Toshiba will have an F key with a little icon figure of a monitor on it. Hold down the fn key and press that F key to transfer the laptop display signal to the external monitor.

If the external monitor shows your normal laptop screen as it would usually display, you have a bad laptop LCD and some other (as yet) undetermined problem. If the external monitor is black just like the laptop, then yout video/graphics card has failed and since it's closely associated with power up issues at the beginning of the startup cycle, is interfering with the laptop's ability to run the operating system because it never gets that far.

From what you've described, you're going to have a choice of sending the laptop to a motherboard repair service (if you go to eBay and type "Motherboard Repair Laptop" in the search window you'll see many choices) for a price between $100 and $200 or need to start shopping for new laptop.

Remember, "don't shoot the messenger"!

Good Luck

Red screen

Hi,

Red screen usually means a burnt out CCFL. The CCFL is an integral part of your LCD screen and often requires replacement of your entire LCD which may actually cost more than the laptop itself.
The CCFL may be repairable (not replaced) by someone but count on a very high price ,Second option is connect an external monitor to the Notbook and switch screens (FN+F8 most likely) if the red part is not there on the external screen, then its the LCD thats bad.. If the external monitor also has the red part, thats means there was a problem with video card.

Thanks

My toshiba satellite m35x-s311

I have not had one of these to look at, but if it has a vga port, you could try connecting it to an external monitor, in case the invertor, or the backlight in the screen has failed. I fit gives video, on an external, that is the place to start.

Computer can not see external drive

Depends on the os and connection method of external. If using XP or Vista, use the control panel - system - hardware - device and check for it there. If there is a yellow or red mark next to it, it didn't install properly. leaving it connected, uninstall it on the device screen. Reboot. When the system detects it, load only the driver for the os U R using.
