My daughter did the same thing to the tip of her Leapster 2 stylus. I called Leap Frog at 1-800-701-5327 and was able to order a replacement stylus directly from them on credit card for $5.00 shipped.

I also took her old stylus and sanded the broken tip down with 100 grit and then 220 grit sandpaper to get rid of the sharp, cracked point and it works just fine. I figure I'll keep the sanded one as a spare in case she does something silly with it again.

The DS stylus is compatible with the leapster. You can get these in lots on eBay quite cheaply ( The ones from China etc are fine)
If the stylus wont work on the screen, the screen needs to be re-calibrated.
* step 1

  • Ensure that a cartridge is not inserted into the Leapster.
  • Step 2 Hold down the Hint button (labelled with a "?") while powering on the Leapster. This will bring up a menu of options.
  • Step 3 Press A ("Touch Calib") this will start the touch screen calibration process. "Starting touch calibration" will appear on the screen briefly followed by a black screen with a white cross in the upper left corner.
  • Step 4 Touch the cross that appears with the stylus pen. When you touch it, the cross will change to 4 dots and then a new cross will appear on the screen. Repeat this process for 5 crosses total - one in each corner and one in the middle.
  • Step 5 Turn the Leapster off and back on again. The touch screen should now be working again.

  • Or just go to the leapster website, go to F.A.Qs and look for the answer

Send $5.00 in check or money order (to cover shipping and handling charges) to
    LeapFrog Customer Service
    Leapster Replacement Stylus
    563 North Fairview Street
    Santa Ana, CA 92703

You may want to call into the company as I have not checked on this personally, but this is what they said to do for a replacement.

My daughter has used her Leapster twice and now there is no sound

there might be a problem with the internal sound chip. It may have been scratched or broken.

Truthfully, I think the best way to solve this problem is to buy another unit, or call the company's technical support for a replacement.

Leapster 2 will shut off right after the "important" screen

Just called Leap Frog and apparently this is a common problem (defective screen). As long as it was purchased within a year they will replace it for free. They ask you when and where you bought it. (You have to pay to send the broken one back it was like $5). Hope this helps.

    Leapster can't read input

    You need calibration
    Touch Screen Calibration is as:
1.) Ensure that a cartridge is NOT inserted.
2.) Hold down the Hint (’?') button while turning the unit on.
3.) When the LEAPSTER menu screen appears, press the ‘A’ button.
4.) Touch each of the crosshairs that appear with the stylus.
    5.) Restart the unit.

Pen won't work on Quantum Leap Exporer Globe

ok, last night I was doing some research on my daughters leapster, its not a quantum leap, but maybe can be fixed the same way. I found out that you can "recalibrate" the machine. I used the instructions for the leapster, but here is what they said about the Quantum:

Turn the power on. Wait until you see the "Home" screen.
Find the small hole in the back of your Pixter unit above the battery compartment door. That’s the calibration hole.
Insert, push and hold the stylus in the calibration hole. Turn Pixter over so that you can see the screen. When you see two plus signs, remove the stylus from the calibration hole.
First touch the plus sign in the upper left corner with the tip of the stylus.
Then touch the plus sign in the lower right corner with the tip of the stylus.

GOOD LUCK, HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU, I ALMOST THREW MINE OUT TOO AND NOW IT WORKS.
