Question about Olympus Stylus 720 SW Digital Camera

Lost Pictures and write protect error

I took about 30-50 pictures today and was able to review them on my camera, as well as pictures from 1 month ago. When I plugged the camera's SD card into my laptop, most of the pictures were missing and the computer had somehow created quadruple copies of the pics I had. Is there anyway to recover the recent missing pictures from today? Or do I have to count my losses and re-format?

Thank you very much. The website demo you provided worked but it left the company logo on the pictures unless the software was bought. I didn't want to pay $40 for the software. I found a free photorecovery software at download.com that directed me to this link http://www.artplus.hr/adapps/eng/dpr.htm that is free and dosen't put a logo on the picture like demo versions do. Thanks again:) I have my pictures back.

First do not panic! It is possible to recover your pictures if you take care. Take the card from the camera (powered off) and if it has a "write protect" tab then lock it now. Do not try and write anything to the card or you risk causing more problems.

You can either plug in you camera to the PC as it should appear as a “Removable Drive” or put the card in a card reader attached to your PC.

Next, if you are comfortable with using a PC then you can download a FREE utility that will recover your photos from the following link:

If you need something a little more "user friendly" then you will need to buy the software. If you search the web for photo recovery software you will find many.
One I have used successfully is RescuePro that used to be bundled with some Sandisk products. Now you can get it from the link below:

http://www.lc-tech.com/software/prwindetail.html.

You can try the demo to see what you can recover before buying.

Remember - Do NOT try & write anything back to the card until you can recover your pictures to your PC safely!

Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!

I had taken pictures at my son's 16th bd party. I had looked at them on the camera throughout the night. I took a picture and tried to look at it and the camera said file error. None of the pictures...

Take no more pics until you've recovered your photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that may help you recover your photos. This article reviews and outlines several of the better ones:

I would suggest purchasing a leading brand card reader(eg lexar or sandisk) as they often come with image recovery software to help in these situations. Once you recover your images, try formatting the card in the camera and see how it goes this time. If you dont want to take chances though, just replace the card with a quality brand. Good Luck!
