My son knocked over the PS2 with a disk inside, it still powered up but jammed the disk drive. I opened it up and got the disk out and tried not to pull anything loose but now the PS2 will not power up.
Any suggestions and what I may have pulled loose or broke?
If i was you i'd take a look at the power supply now because the powerboard if it had a serge or somthing it would have safty switched itself if this is the case it should just need to be reset. if its the disk drive fiddle with it try unjaming it any way possible weather it requiers a beating or not because you can pick up a disk drive very cheap and the console them selfes are tuff reliable devises i fixed mine a number of times just by dipping it in metho

Is it stuck at this screen? If so, try shutting down the PS2, then remove the power cord for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in and turn the system on.
Also, if the PS2 is having trouble reading the disk it will do this. You can try another disk because maybe the one you are using is scratched up. The system may have to much dust and dirt inside causing disk read problems. Try a can of compressed air and see if you can blow some of the dust out from inside the disk drive!
It is not recognizing the game disc. Try cleaning the disc and the disc drive.
To clean the disc, you can use water with a bit of dish soap if it is dirty. If it is scratched, you can try using a bit of car polish (apply, let dry and buff clean). Wash with water and dry completely before putting it back in the PS2.
Or try a disc you never use (e.g. Grand Tourismo).
To clean the disk drive, you can spray some "canned air" into it to see if you can knock the dust away from the laser/reader. DO NOT turn the can upside down when you spray. You will get liquid propellent inside the PS2 and that gets VERY cold when it evaporates. so cold that any humidity in the air will condense in your PS2 and it will surely not work for a while (even if you clean the disk).
If you are really adventurous, you can take the feet off the PS2 and then remove the screws and open everything up to do a good cleaning (it probably needs it - PS2 can be almost 10 years old!). Dont be afraid to take it apart - just use a digital camera to photo every step so you know how to put it back together.
Due to the knocking of ps2 by ur son,it might have affected the reading lense of the ps2.so i request u to open the console.you would see another cover covering the lense.open tat too.with the help of tissue just try to wipe out the lense n jus turn on the ps2 without closing anythin to jus check whether everythin is workin..if the dvd works, then arrange back or put back everythin back to it's position..hope this would work...else try calling a service engineer.
please rate this solution if it meets ur needs else choose fixya.Thank you...
JoTex.. The PS2 wont play blueray disks ..most of the older ps2 games have a purple or almost black color..Try checking the games to see if they are damaged, such as finger prints large scratches ect, try a dvd lens cleaner they are pretty cheep.(the disc type). the lens my be dirty,, or you can use a can of compressed air like the type for your keyboard. just spray inside with the disk tray open..hope this helps
I have the same model, What could be going wrong is your Power Callibration for the Laser might be off (Look on Youtube for Repairs on how to fix this) The site is : www.youtube.com Search "PS2 Repairs" :)
Make sure the disk is compatible and not damaged.Try playing another disk and see what happens if you still do not get anything you may want to consider a xbox or 360 with remote control for dvds. Also check to see if ps2 has a remote for playing dvd disc. never worry!!
