Check the bottom ribbon cable is in the socket properly and firmly positioned into the ribbon socket. Check that the cable is not being shorted in any way. If the connection is fine then the bottom screen is failing and needs to be replaced.
It might be worth checking the ribbon cable for the top screen is tight in the socket on the main board, this could explain why the screen gets back to normal when you close the ds then reopen. The ribbon cable for the top screen is in the hinge on the left side of the ds when open, the only way to check this is to take the back of the ds, to do this you will need a small philips screw driver and a tri-wing screw driver which you can get of ebay quite cheap. The worst possible fault is the top screen is faulty and needs to be changed, if you do a search in youtube you will find videos on how to do this, they are good and quite detailed. hope this helps.
Is could be your TV and not the PS3. When the resolution of the screen changes, you TV will flicker to adjust to the new resolution. My TV flickers in a similar way when playing games of lower resolution than my HDTV.
hey i think i got a solution, read the link i gave below credits to votahuan, its for adjusting screen flickers in both top and lower screen of ndsl, however i need you to do me a favor in return, hope you do not mind posting up the pics for me at email@example.com once you found the two hidden screw at ndsl, im just having hard time finding it in fat nds, so i need a rough i dea of where it mite be located. Heere's the link anyways :- LCD FLICKER SOLUTION
Check all the ribbon cables and make sure they are all the way in. The flickering screen tells you it's probably one of the cables not on that screen. These cables go in a lot further than you might think.
