Hi lindalipps!

Here's my tip.

If your using a Dell Computer, just turn on the computer and you see the DELL logo, immediately press and hold the CTRL key and tap F11 many times while holding on the CTRL key.

But if you are using a Normal Computer, you need a Operating System CD which you can purchase at Microsoft.

Thanks!
I know it will work. Be Positive!
Your good rating will be very much appreciated.

Good luck and thank you!

Media test failure ideacentre 320

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard disk has failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty.
First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

The hard disk on my gateway dx4820-05h crashed and had to replace it with a new one. I don't have a recovery disk so I tried to install windows 8 but i'm unsuccessful. During the install process,...

You will need to buy another licensed copy of windows 8 if you didn't burn the recovery disks while the system was operational.

You might also be able to buy the recovery disks from gateway them-self. Contact gateway customer support for more information. Make sure you have the make and model number for your machine and be SURE they have the correct information or you might get a disk for another system.

Electricity went out. rebooted computer. monitor screen is blank. when I press the input button on monitor, the sign on screen pops up for a sec then blank again

Try removing the power cord then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Put the power cord back in the try rebooting.

If it fails try to run the Check Disk Utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.
