I have the same problem. Canon says:

For troubleshooting purposes please follow these steps:

    1. Look in the top of the printer, where the paper feeds from. Make sure there aren't any paper clips or thumbtacks or something like that in the paper path.

    2. Turn the unit around to the rear. In the back of the printer there is a door that can be opened. Open the door and look for any foreign object or smaller pieces of paper that may have stuck in the printer.

    Close the door after inspection.

    3. Open the front door to the unit. Make sure there are no foreign objects or stuck paper in the location where the paper comes out after printing.

After inspecting all of these locations, reconnect the power cord and turn the unit on.

I'm sure this won't work as the printer is brand new. The next option is to send the printer in and get a refurbished on. Yikes! Need help...

6A80 error is an APP position error caused by the APP motor during the purging operation as the printer starts up. Canon states that one of three components is likely to have failed, the sheet feed unit, purge unit or logic board. All of these will be almost impossible to get as a spare part. The only thing worth trying is an EEPROM reset that can be done using the service manual. Get a copy here:

Double check that the error isn't 6C10. I also thought I had an 8C10 error also and that's how I found your unanswered question! But I couldn't find any other internet reference to 8C10 but I did find a YouTube fix for a 6C10 error message. So I got my reading glasses and looked again. Sure enough it was a 6C10 error! I followed the instructions for the 6C10 error fix (resetting Ink Absorber Reset) and my printer is now functioning. Bonus note: My printer is a MP620 and the reset was for a MP550. Same error number though! and also same solution. By now your printer has probably crossed that printer rainbow bridge... but hopefully someone else will need your help? With my reset, I am going to run my $$$ ink cartridges out instead of maintenancing the absorber and then toss mine as well!

Hello thanks for using FixYa

Error 5100 means that the cartridge can not be detected by the printer. Actually the printer is not actually loading the cartridge and showing you the error 5100.

To solve these follow the following steps. I hope it works
  • Turn off printer
  • Remove both the cartridges from the printer
  • Use a clothe moistened with alcohol to clean the surface contact on the cartridges where the terminals inside the printers touches
  • Return the cartridges
  • Turn on the printer.
Error will be removed
I hope this solution will helpful for you

Not a good start, there is a sensor in the printer reporting an error, Cannons objective in asking you to turn off the printer and turn it back on is to reset the sensor, however if the error persists it is not a faulty sensor reading but a actual fault. The only added suggestion I can make is to step through the installation again ensuring you have removed all internal packaging from the printer and all protective packaging from the ink tanks. After that and as the machine is new you need to contact Canon directly and explain the problem to them, there will always be a percentage of machines which roll off the production line with a fault. I only have the US contact details if that is not applicable you will have to check online for your own country

I have a Canon, Pixma MP520 and an error message is coming up 6A80 Printer error has accurred. Turn off power then back on again. If problems persist, see the manual. I can't seem to fix it, can you help

Put the colors out of the printer and do it on and off a few times and put the colors back in and a few times on and off again, that was working on my 6a80 problem.

Greetings Pieter.

Hi there,

I opened the printer, and pushed gently on the lever that holds/releases the print head, and this seemed to release whatever was stuck. After this the print head moved freely on turning on the printer/copier.
