Question about Toshiba 50HX81 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Thanks for the reply

So caps on the hyperboard. Hmmm...I don't know what a hyperboard is so that could be a problem. Where did you buy the caps? Maybe I'll have to try that as well. I was planning to sell the TV for $200 since it doesn't work correctly but if I can fix the problem cheaply then maybe I can get a bit more for it. Do you have any other info that might help me?

That seems a little too difficult for me. There's no way I'd be able to solder anything. Thanks for the help though! I guess I'll just sell it for as much as someone will give me for it.

my 50" wide screen was purchased in 2002. it ran fine until i added the hd converter box from comcast. the image on non-hd channels started to jump, pixelate and the sound stutter occassionaly. now it is unreadable on startup and the hd channels are starting to become effected too.

They are just little box reservoirs. Heat them up and pull it out when hot. Heat it up again and set the caps in the hot solder box.

Toshiba 50hd82 Hyperboard

By your question alone the best place to start would be a good repair shop. The hyper module needs to be removed from the main chassis. After removing the two outer covers locate Cx261, Cx230, Cx270, Cz52, Cx178, Cx221, C514, Cx250, Cx670, Cx241 and Cx541. These are all 16v/10uf caps SMT but most techs simply replace them with the sub mini radial caps.

Dougers, I am next door, in Alberta. I have fixed my hyperboard by replacing the surface mount caps myself in my workshop for a fraction of the cost of a replacement board.
See my other thread for more information.
