My 1990 Honda Accord radio antenna motor functions opposite to what it is suppose to be. When radio is on the antenna down, when the radio is off antenna up. Even with this reverse function I can feed the antenna into motor but will not go all the way. Do I have to cut the plastic (teethed) cable off for proper fitting? I have purchased a new antenna from Honda. The motor does not have any broken parts of the old antenna in it. Is there a antenna switch that controls this function and where is it located?

This is a factory radio. Is there an antenna switch in the circuit that could have been affected during a repair procedure? It does not appear to be a grd short. It appears to be a reversed wire in the ignition switch or antenna switch. I have no way of telling due to lack of wiring schematic drawings for that year. The wire to the antenna itself is ok. Thanks

First of all, is your radio factory or aftermarket? If its factory the you probably have a bad ground or a short in the radio power to antenna. If its after market, then the remote antenna wire is hooked up wrong. Check to make sure the antenna wire is hooked up to the antenna. Good luck

The power switch is in the radio, it is a remote antenna wire from the radio. So when you turn on the radio, the antenna should go up, when its turned off, it should retract. The short is probably in the on/off switch of the radio itself. Sorry. Its funny how cars and electronics dont last forever. You just got a bad switch. Good luck. After market stereos are fancy. Actually, if you remove the radio deck itself, and use a test light to find the wire for the antenna, you could cut it, bypass that all together and install a dash switch to activate the antenna. check out the local salvage yards for a replacement.

Fix A Honda Accord Antenna

Anyone that has owned an older Honda Accord (1990-1998 or so) has probably had a problem with their radio antenna. My problem was actually there when I bought the car. Whenever I would turn the car off the antenna would retract and when it was all the way in it would make this horrible grinding/clicking noise. Eventually it stopped working all together. As I was looking into this problem I found out that it was a very common problem, but one that had a very easy solution. I would say that almost anyone could preform this antenna fix. If you are having the same problems here is how to fix it:<br>
1) Get a replacement antenna mast. You can find them on Ebay for around $15.

2) Remove the old mast by taking off the chrome nut that hold the antenna onto your fender. You might need a small hammer and a punch to get it off. It should be fairly tight. <br>
3) Pull out the old mast. You have to give it a good tug as the end is in there tight. Check to see if it is all there. If some of it is still stuck in the antenna motor you might need to take it apart to get it all out.<br>
4) Turn the radio on then put the new mast into the hole for the antenna with the teeth facing the rear of the car. Push it as far as it will stopping when it won't go in anymore. You don't want to force it.<br>
5) Have a friend turn off the antenna while you guide the new mast in. If it doesn't go quite in all the way that is fine, it will eventually.<br>
6) Re-install the holding nut. <br>
That's all it takes. You can now enjoy your radio again!

Click? That is usually a starter? Are you sure you are replacing the right fuse since nothing should click with an antenna.

How to Change Car Attenna on Honda Accord LXI

the antenna comes out from under the finder panel , in the trunk there is a carpeted insert, that needs to be removed in order to access the antenna motor, you can take it out from there. it is easier with the radio off. that way the antenna is in the down position.

Antenna

either way, its a pain in the **** to replace...you are better off getting a professional to replace it. if its a powered....the motor is underneath the dashboard on the left side...behind all the fuses...good luck getting it out. if its just a regular..pretty much the same thing. the wire that connects to the radio goes down through the drivers side front pillar...behind the dash board..and finally down to the radio.
