I have the same problem, i got the vista basic. the solution was pretty simple. i went back to the store, returned the printer and they were happy to change it with a different brand of better quality. Now im all set, no issues with this new printer (cannon) its lovely it prints anything and installs anywhere...

Check dependency services on Print Spooler ================================ 1.Click "Start", input "services.msc" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter". 2.Double click the “Print Spooler” service. 3.Choose “Dependencies” Tab and remember the services name. 4.In the service list window, find the dependency services and try to start them. 5.Please try to start the “Print Spooler” service again.

On the right side of the services window, scroll down to "Print Spooler". Double-click it.
If startup type is "disabled", click the drop-down and set to "Automatic" and then click "Start". If already on automatic, click "Stop" to stop the service. Once stopped, click "Start" to restart the service.
click on start ..RUN.....type cmd......type sc config spooler depend= RPCSS......click on start ..RUN......type services.msc.......look for ptrint spooler......it will be started if not then double click on print spooler and click on start.
