If you have a po725 fault code"engine speed signal" this would be an indication of a bad crankshaft sensor.the good news is it's only 50.00.the bad news is it is a pain the *** to replace!it is located on the firewall side of engine block above oilpan rail by trans bell housing.i replace them from the top reaching down but its all feel...cant see anything.if its the vehicle speed sensor in the trans your after this is about 150.00 and is located in final drive section of trans right above the drivers side inner c/v joint.much easier to replace.hope this helped...let me know.

SOURCE: Location of oil filter on Nissan Altima 2005

The oil filter is located behind the right (passenger) inner fender cover. It is right next to the crankshaft pulley at the bottom of the front of the engine facing toward the right front wheel. I do not have a picture at this time.

Hope this is helpful!

SOURCE: Where is the Speed Sensor located on a 2005 Nissan Altima?

An engine speed sensor is mounted on the vehicle’s crankshaft and is usually where the speedometer gets its data, whereas wheel speed sensors are located individually at each wheel or axle generating a signal that changes with wheel speed.
It is important that these two speed sensors are always in good working condition to provide accurate data. If one of them gives the wrong signal, control functions of the engine ECU and ABS ECU will be largely compromised. So to have a long-lasting speed sensor, cleaning it every now and then is necessary. Simply wipe off the grime it has accumulated with a towel. Or it’s okay to carefully blow-dry it with compressed air. Anyway, it does not need to be hospital-clean, it just needs to be free from major debris and metal media.
If this didn't do it for you call autozone and they can pull up pictures of it for you and it will show the location to the exact positioning.
Hope This Helps

SOURCE: location of speed sensor in alitma 2005 2.5

Boritz2: there are several speed sensors on this vehicle, so I will give you the locations of all of them due to the fact that I don't know which one you are seeking.
There are speed sensors located at each wheel to work with the ABS unit.
On the trans-axle, on the driver's side near the top of the transmission.
I hope this has been helpful to you.
Is there a reason you are looking for the speed sensor?

Nissan altima 2005 not shifting or showing speed

The speed sensor is probably disconnected or the wiring was damaged. The CPU needs this input to demand shifts.

It is a vehicle speed sensor. It will cause many various problems other than your issue but definitely is what is causing yours.I am not familiar with all makes and models so I am including a link to assist you.The link is actually a google search page which I set up for you and includes locations and images. The first couple actually are links back to this site, but the others will be much more helpful.Good luck,Greg There is also a Nissan forum, but relates more to an ABS problem someone posted, although ABS could also be affected.

WHERE IS THE SPEED SENSOR LOCATED ON THE 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA?

As long as your are talking abt your speed sensor it's in your transmission. You can remove it without dropping it farely easy on a lift. Just follow the cable going into it and it just unscrews out. It's just a little plastic gear that reads how fast you're going.
