Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 Lens Won´t Open

Had my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 for a year and a half and recently the lens has been playing funny games; first the lens was stuck in the open position when the camera was off... Recharged the battery and all was well until now a couple weeks later and the lens won´t open period. And I´ll be in Machu Picchu in 2 days!!! Help!!!

I have the same problem - the lens won't open, rendering the camera useless. The fragile lens cover got bumped in my inside jacket pocket and seems to have come off whatever mechanism is used to open the cover. I can hear something working inside the camera trying to open the lens but nothing happens. After about 5 seconds it displays an error message and won't go into record mode. Playback mode works fine.

This is a common problem with TZ3s. Power the camera on, then puff a little graphite onto the lens cover and coax it open with a tooth pic. Do this, powering the camera on/off till lens opens normally. Add little more graphite if necessary, but sparingly.

Graphite is used because it is extremely slippery, but will not attract dust like an oil will. At the same time, it is black! so you don't want to use anymore than absolutely necessary make lens work. Even then, check to be sure lens itself is clean after, and wipe carefully with an Eyeglass lens cloth only if necessary.

Another option in to remove the lens cover altogether by just pulling the leafs out of the camera. Another option is to sell your working but lens cover problem to a repairman on ebay, and buy a good TZ3 or TZ5 on ebay used, refurbished or new. Good prices if you bide your time.

Don't put in your best bid to the very last minute of the auction. In the mean time, put a camera you are interested in on your MyEbay Watch list and set a reminder alarm on your cell phone about 5 minutes before the auction is to close, then if the price is still good, enter your best bid 30 seconds before the end of the auction. Refresh the auction page on your PC to keep track of the bidding right up to the last 30 minutes so you can see the last remain bid and if it is worth outbidding on this camera. Again, if you are not in a hurry and bide your time, you can get a great buy. There are plenty of these cameras sold every day.

Digital cameras have too many circuit connectors that could develop contact resistance without boundary lubricants. Cheaper to buy a new digital camera.

I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-tz3 camera. I dropped it and cracked the lens cover and badly bent the metal lens part. Can I order the new lens and replace it myself, or must it be sent in? It doesnt seem to...

If you don't know already, then I wouldn't try repairing it. Consider selling it on ebay to a repairman who fixes and resells them. Then buy a good on from a repairman or someone upgrading, for a good price.

Doesn't sound like an amateur's repair to me. :)

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 spots on pictures

Upgrade to the TZ3 or TZ5. TZ3 is smaller and has a great wide angle lens. You can get a very good buy on Ebay for a used or new TZ3 because it has been replaced with the latest TZ5.

You can likely get about $40 dollars for yous, if it has all the stuff it shipped with, even with the problem you mention, since repairmen buy time to fix and resell on ebay.

Lumix TZ3 lens does not open

It is not clear if you are saying whole camera turns off or just screen turns off.

Notice before the camera went bad the lense does not extend in play mode, while it does in record mode. Many cameras have software that automatically turns camera off if lens cannot/fails to extend for some reason. Try to help it extend in record mode before camera turns off.
