I believe it is telling you to actually replace the video card with a more powerful card, not just patch the one you have.
There are a number of aftermarket video cards that will work.

Open Device Manager, Uninstall the Graphic Card and driver, reboot the machine, allow Windows 7 to apply the generic driver, Open Windows Updates and run. OR, open Device Manager, display adapter, update Graphics adapter. OR, Use the eMachine windows vista 64 bit drivers. Download the Windows Vista 64bit driver and Save , open Properties, change compatibility to Windows 7. Can I upgrade to windows 7

Download and install the Windows7 Upgrade Advisor software using the following link. It will tell you what upgrades you may need.

NOTE: [These are my recommendations only] You should have a Video Card with at least 256 MB Ram to take advantage of AeroDesktop. You should have a minimum of 2 GB of System Memory.
I have a laptop with 1 GB System Ram and only 128 MB Video and Win7 works well.

You don't say what kind of monitor you have, but that's probably where the problem is. Most likely you have the new video card set for a higher resolution than the monitor can handle. When Windows starts up and switches to your settings, the monitor shuts down. Some monitors will display a message like "input signal out of range" before shutting off, but not all brands or models do.

Look up your model of monitor and find its maximum resolution, and don't set your card greater than that. Press the F8 key when your computer starts up after turning on the power, and choose the "start in VGA" option from the startup menu. This will allow Windows to come up with a resolution setting all monitors can handle. Then you can change your settings.

If you upgraded your video card because you have applications that require high resolutions that the monitor doesn't offer, you'll need to upgrade your monitor as well.

Thanks for using Fixya!

I want to upgrade my dell gx 260 to the new windows 7 os .idid aupgrade advisor report online. it said i needed to upgrade my graphics adapter and ram memory.

Hello!

If you want my advise, don´t do that. I see how like windows 7, and I can say that is windows xp sp3, very fast and flexible, and safe, and don´t need so much. Windows 7 looks like windows vista, and I thik that have stil more trouble.

Windows has lost the display driver for your particular card. You will need to determine what the card is (it may say when you first start the machine) and redownload the drivers for it.
