Reset your operating system software (Windows XP..)to Compaq factory setting : restarting your computer. Hold down F10 key, your computer will go into recovery software provided windows recovery was preloaded into your hard disk during installation.

If it your Bios you want to restore to factory setting, restarting your computer hold F1 key, entering BIOS set up. Look and press the key assigned "Default Loading" save change and exit Bios set up.

Default behavior of Windows XP is that it automatically logs in if there is only one user account in the system and is not password protected.
Here is a way to make XP automatically login to a user account.
By default, it shows Administrator. You need to input your username and password.
Delete any account you don't need

if your computer shows a blue bar at the top of the screen and says www.dell.com you can try ctrl+f11 which will start the system restore sequence......hopefully you have one of the dells which containt this feature

Do you have a recovery partition?
If you do you can try to run the recovery tools and there should be an option to set back to factory settings. Another option is to do windows system restore. Although a system restore won't put it back to factory settings, it can improve the system.
