How to reset my compaq computer back to the factory setting

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Do you have a recovery partition?
If you do you can try to run the recovery tools and there should be an option to set back to factory settings. Another option is to do windows system restore. Although a system restore won't put it back to factory settings, it can improve the system.

    This guide is pretty good:

Reset your operating system software (Windows XP..)to Compaq factory setting : restarting your computer. Hold down F10 key, your computer will go into recovery software provided windows recovery was preloaded into your hard disk during installation.
Follow on screen instruction.

If it your Bios you want to restore to factory setting, restarting your computer hold F1 key, entering BIOS set up. Look and press the key assigned "Default Loading" save change and exit Bios set up.

Default behavior of Windows XP is that it automatically logs in if there is only one user account in the system and is not password protected.

Here is a way to make XP automatically login to a user account.

  • Click Start, Run and type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2
  • Uncheck Users must enter a username and password to use this computer
  • Click Apply.
  • Now, fill-up your user information and password there.
By default, it shows Administrator. You need to input your username and password.

Delete any account you don't need

Hello,

to reset your laptop, restart your computer and constantly press F11 once the first black screen on your laptop displays, or the Compaq logo display. Your computer will automatically load to recover manager and you can factory restore you computer from there.

2nd option: click start menu, click all programs and scroll to "Hp backup and recovery" or "Backup and recovery" click it and proceed for the factory default setting.

Trying to restore back to factory what can i

When you purchased the computer, you should have received a set of "System Restore" CD-ROMs. Use them.

If you have lost them, telephone HP/COMPAQ, and order a replacement set of "System Restore" CD-ROMs. The cost could be $20 for the set, and $20 for courier-shipping. When the disks arrive, use them.

P.S. Backup all your music/files/bookmarks/contacts before doing the "factory" reset.

Factory settings

None ... it is not that simple. You can remove the BIOS battery for 15+ seconds that will reset the BIOS to factory. To get the computer back to factory, you need a restore disk from the manufacturer. Look at the site to get this information.

First of all,,,what type of factory settings?some settings are in the Bios which you access as soon as you turn the computer on by hitting a "F?" key,,it will tell you which key to hit when the compaq splash screen appears..and then reset to default.Other settings are in the control panel under administrative options then click on services but you have to set those manually
