Question about PC Desktops

I have Norton 360. I am instructed to put in a new DVD for backup, but it is always rejected. I read on the Memorex box that the disc can be updated. It is DVD+R. Will you please help me?

DVD is actually a Licensing Authority which holds the patents and does licensing for the people who invented various aspects of DVD.  This is relevant because UDF 2.6 onwards (that would be the DVD filesystem) allows not only discs recorded in multiple sessions but updates including writing the same file with updated content...as long of course as there is room left on the recordable media.

What are you reading on the Memorex box anyhow?  I notice ' Re-Writeable' on DVD-R and +R all the time, though of course they're not rewriteable through normal ; maybe there's some thing where you they process them in an oven and reuse them, but it's unconsistent with the +R standard, and you should definitely double-check things at their website.  DVD+RW and +RAM have to be ' erased ' before they can be reused by doing a burn of that variety.  I am pretty sure you just need to buy more DVD+Rs or -RW or -RAM, and not expect to reuse +Rs you bought for 20 cents each.

The most important thing here of course is that you've given the wrong category; you should use or create one for Norton 360.

Norton 360 install has replaced/overridden DVD drive

Hi, I can certainly understand how you feel and hope I can help.

error 19 isnt necesarily a corrupt driver, it can be 2 drivers trying to use the same resource (as in norton's backup drive and your cd drive, for example)

Try this - Click the start button, right click on "Computer", select "Properties", then click "Device Manager" in the upper left hand corner.

Open the bit that says "CD/DVD Drives" and try right clicking on the drives there and selecting "Update Driver Software". This will probably do nothing. Don't worry, I didnt really expect it to. Now right click on the drives, and select "Delete" and then reboot. This will reset the drivers for ya.

This fix usually DOES work. Most of the time. If it doesnt work, try the ones below.

Just about anytime you do an install and not burn the data to disc, that happen. Not always but most often.
That data is lost as far as I know. I did same thing and lost 200 movies.
I now burn everything to disc.
Sorry about the news....

Want to make backup disc for my laptop & can't find a single person who can tell me what disc to use - please help. Do i use DVD R or DVD-R. Everyone seems to tell me that i can use either, but there's...

You can use DVD - or + media, it doesn't matter which. When recordable DVD's were just emerging, DVD - was used more for video and + for data for compatability reasons. In this day and age, 99.99% of DVD recorders are compatable with both. There is no benefit or drawback to using either. Keep in mind R media is recordable once while RW media can be erased and re-recorded.

One thing to keep an aya on is the dual layer thing. If you use a dual-layer disc you will need a burner that supports dual-layer and a reader (if need be) that supports dual-layer discs. Most newer DVD recorders and readers will work with dual-layer discs. The benefit to dual-layer is storing around 9 gigabyte of data verses storing around 4 gigabytes on a regular DVD.

Here is another suggestion for backups. Want to create your own backup Restore CDs? This is useful if you don't want to re-install and re-configure anything. If the computer goes down, just put in the discs and it will be just like you never left it when you created the backups. For this, you would need to use a product called Symantec Ghost. It is a part of the Symantec's Norton SystemWorks or something similar to that. I've used Ghost on hundreds of cases.

Hope this helps!
