You can do so by finding and pressing in the "secret" button. You can usually see a slight impression in the back of the seat, revealing its location. If not, feel around for it near the upper edge of the seat back.
Press this button in with your thumb while pulling up on the headrest to remove it from the seat.
To install the headrest simply push it in until you hear the lock click, securing it in the seat.
Remove the headrests. Then slide the cover over the seat back cushion (Photo 5). Push the bottom straps through the gap and into the buckles just like you did on the bottom cushion (refer to Photo 3). Reconnect the bib panel and pull down on the rear portion of the seat back cover to remove wrinkles.
There is a small lever at the base of the pole that goes into the seats, press it in and pull up the headrest. Or, move your front seats further forward.
I have a 2010 Santa Fe and this is how I did it. Remove the back panel of the seat, there are 5 or 6 plastic clips that hold the seat back cover on, start at the bottom of the seat back panel and work your way upwards, pull the panel downwards and it should come off. Once the panel is removed, You will see a black cable running down the back of the seat. At the bottom of the cable, you will see a black plastic box with two clips holding it shut. Open the cover and pull away the cable from the box on the side that runs up to the headrest, once it releases the cable, remove the cable end from the holder inside. From there, just hold the headrest adjustment lock in and push upwards hard until it comes out with the cable.
Same proceedure as front headrests but tilt the back of the seats forward about halfway. Push the little clip in on top of the seat, by the chrome rail, pull the headrest up and slide out of the hole. Push the back of the seat back, lift up the bottom seat and tilt forward. Lay the back seats down. Done.
I've removed the headrest on my mustang before. Some seats have a zipper or a way to snap the seat cover at the bottom rear. If you open it you can put your arm up the back of the seat. With the headresat down you can feel the locking piece that retracts when you lift the headrest. If you take a long shaft flat blade screwdriver and place it in between and lift up the headrest it will slide out. Yes, getting the screwdriver in place can be tricky but, it was the only way to remove the headrest without having the correct tool. I hope this can work on your vehicle as well.
Im doing the same thing.. Push the headrest full forward, then lift hard to get past last indent in pole.. This worked for the front as well.. i also could not find a hole to push
Most volvo headrest can be removed by releasing the catches which are on the back of the headrest on some models and on the front on others I believe on 960 they are on the back. To release the seat on a 960 look where the shafts should be then follow it down on the back where the seat back top stops then goes in press around that area you should be able to find the catch there pull up on the headrest while releasing the catch you have to do this on both sides. The headrest should come off this also works on 740 and 760 series the volvo 780 is a different story the only way to get the headrest off on that is to disassemble the seat
