Replace the powersupply then, natch.  (Be sure the connectors are the same or compatible; the new ATX one has 4 more connectors to accomodate more 12V rails, aside from the videocard power connectors.)  If you keep the old supply, you can repair it or use it for spare parts.

If you want to repair it, create an appropriate category (PC Power Supply, 700W ATX ca. 2007, generic, Fairchild Power regulator set or something like that) and maybe you'll get a walkthrough as long as you have a DVM with test clips and batteries with the same, and offer awesome descriptions of what's before you when you open up the box.

Hi lastexit,

This is a simple fix. Just need to purchase a power supply that is compatible to what's in now.

Hope I answered your question and good luck.

SOURCE: Power went out in my house due to Snow Storm. My

it might be that it short circuited. try to remove the battery, unplug the ac adapter2_bing.gif and press and hold the power button for about 15-20 sec to drain power. expect no response since we're just draining the power. then put back in the battery and ac, and try to turn pc on. if still no go, possible motherboard replacement.

makes sure dust free from your power supply. but does sound like you going to have to buy a new power supply., not really any way to test power supply, you may only have enough power to spin the fun on the cpu, turn on some light but not enough to start up the computer system or even boot up. amazon.com you buy one 18.00 to 25.00 look for deals of the day where shipping free. have in a few days

I have a COMPAQ, Presario SR1055CL Desktop, that will not bootup

Hi....If the computer will not start and you hear no fans or other electrical sounds chances are the power supply has failed. If you had an electrical storm that caused the blackout and did not have a surge protector power strip it could be much worse. Check the power supply first. You can google for help in testing that supply. Good Luck Hank

Computer power light comes on and just blinks. tried shutting off and turning on and does the same thing.power went off in house yesterday when we had a storm .power went off for about a second and came...

do you have a dial up modem installed in the system's pci slot? try removing it and see if it posts then. if it still doesn't post (show bios screen) then try using a known good stick of ram. if it still doesn't display then chances are its the power supply.

My Dell Inspiron 530 wont turn on

yes buy a power supply. I have seen hundreds of computers that have gone through storms. Remember a Dell usually uses a special power supply.
For a good deal look on ebay for your specific model, They almost always have "Buy it Now" deals.

No power

Had the same problem after the electric went out due to a storm. When the electric came back on the computer wouldn't turn on. There was a light flashing on the Power Supply and on the mother board. I disconnected the large white Power connector from the motherboard, waited 15 seconds and plugged the connector back in, the light came on solid, press the on/off switch and the computer booted up and continued to work fine.

HP Media-Center M1170N power went off because of storm. now computer won't power on. light on back green and blinking. would like to know what is wrong and how to fix it. I don't know jack about...

Is the computer doing nothing when you hit the power button, or does it come on but not boot into windows?

Storms can do a lot of damage to a computer even with a surge supressor. With a limited knowledge of computers, you may not want to attempt to diagnose it yourself. Many steps require you to remove pieces of your computer and testing voltage leads. At this point I would say your power supply is a good culprit but I often see the motherboard fail by itself or along with the power supply. If it is really bad, it can take many other components along with it.

I commonly see surges or outages come through the phone line and into a dial up modem also if you use one and sometimes removing/replacing the modem will fix it. If you use high speed internet, sometimes it will come through your cable/DSL line and take out the motherboard also. There are a lot of things to test. You may be better off taking it somewhere to be repaired.
