Replace the powersupply then, natch.  (Be sure the connectors are the same or compatible; the new ATX one has 4 more connectors to accomodate more 12V rails, aside from the videocard power connectors.)  If you keep the old supply, you can repair it or use it for spare parts.

If you want to repair it, create an appropriate category (PC Power Supply, 700W ATX ca. 2007, generic, Fairchild Power regulator set or something like that) and maybe you'll get a walkthrough as long as you have a DVM with test clips and batteries with the same, and offer awesome descriptions of what's before you when you open up the box.

Hi lastexit,

This is a simple fix. Just need to purchase a power supply that is compatible to what's in now.

Hope I answered your question and good luck.

it might be that it short circuited. try to remove the battery, unplug the ac adapter2_bing.gif and press and hold the power button for about 15-20 sec to drain power. expect no response since we're just draining the power. then put back in the battery and ac, and try to turn pc on. if still no go, possible motherboard replacement.

My Hp Pavillion dv60000 went through a power surge during a storm.

From the description the power surge went through the power adapter and into the main motherboard, I would have the power supply checked out, if okay! it means the motherboard has been compromised and at this point replace the laptop computer

Hitachi 46w500 went off tonight during storms, low voltage, wont turn back on

There might be a failure on the power supply or horizontal section of the TV even if you see some light inside the TV. Some of the voltages could be missing and that is why the TV fails to power up.
If you know how to use a multimeter, you could check all the fuses from your power supply.
Unplug your TV from the main AC line if you intend to do it yourself.
You will know how much you can do or it might safer to contact a tech.
Let me know if you need further assistance

Your reasoning about the switch mode power supply being damaged is probably right.
Bear in mind that this power supply may not be the only thing that may be damaged in your computer.
You won't know for sure until you borrow a power supply and install it into your computer to see if it will work again.

My Dell Inspiron 530 wont turn on

yes buy a power supply. I have seen hundreds of computers that have gone through storms. Remember a Dell usually uses a special power supply.
For a good deal look on ebay for your specific model, They almost always have "Buy it Now" deals.
