If you are talking about top and bottom, there is a small integrated circuit on the main board , it is called the vert out put IC. You will need to replace it and the 4.7 microfarad capacitor located right beside it.

Electronic tech needs help this tv only half of picture is showing what could be the problem i wants to fix it myself

Hello Danyell,
According to the model number you provided you have a 42" Insignia plasma TV. The problem you reported with having just a blank black screen on the lower half is due to a bad lower buffer board or also called a lower scan board. The part number is LJ92-01739C and if you Google this part number you can find these online and also find some sites that may show a short video on how to replace it. Price of this board looks to be about $35. Also of note is you will find that this part number is a Samsung part number which means your Insignia TV has a Samsung plasma panel in it so the associated circuit boards will also be Samsung parts.

Only TOP half of picture shows, rest is black???

No,problems u discribing the LCD screen panel some how it shorted and dead.Replacing the LCD screen panel is not an option, because LCD screen panel are 90% of the tv,so replacing it.LCD screen panel will cost the same as a new tv,because LCD screen panel are limited produced by the tv corporations. It time to buy a new tv.

Only half of my screen shows a picture, the other half is black. It is not a split screen, half of the picture is missing

You have a problem with the vertical IC. Or someone typed into the software and hit a service blank option..Cances are better that you have to resolder the vertical IC. This is a projection TV...correct?

Half a picture in black

Witch part of the screen you loose?if is the bottom or the top it could be a problem in the vertical IC circuit if is the left side or the right side is a problem on the horizontal deflection circuit(very rare),try taping on the set when it does it and see if the pix reacts ,if it does one way or the other you have loose conections and some resoldering need to be done.If you are familiar with tv circuitry you will have no problem. If you are not be safe and call for help.
