Hi there! This are some steps on how to
setup your modem/router New DSL Modem Available
Embarq is now shipping an updated version of the DSL
Modem called the "660". It is smaller than the older model
(645) and is much easier to setup. A
few years ago, Sprint/Embarq changed the way their servers communicate
with the DSL modems. The new method is called DHCP, which is how the 660
modem works. The older 645 Modem used "PPPoE". So it's
best to have the new 660 DSL modem. The
older 645 modem also had the same default IP address as the Linksys Router
(192.168.1.1) - so you had to change one of the addresses to make them work
new 660 DSL modem uses 192.168.2.1 as the default IP address. This does
not conflict with the default IP address of the Linksys Router (192.168.1.1).Note that if you had changed the Linksys Router
IP address to 192.168.2.1, then you will first need to reset it back to the
default address 192.168.1.1. If
you call Embarq and request the new 660 DSL modem they will sent it to you at
no cost. When you install the 660 DSL modem, you need to be sure that you
power down the old 645 modem amd leave it off at least 1 hour before you plug
in the 660 DSL modem. The Embarq server needs to "forget" the
old 645 modem. After an hour, all you should have to do is plug in
the new 660 modem and everything should start up properly. Call
Embarq Tech Support 1-877-646-3282 if you have problems setting up the
modem. If the Internet Lights does not come on after a few moments - then
call Embarq Tech Support.
pc wireless adapter will work then if you have also another network like wireless router or another PC or Laptop with wireless adapter, if your going to use this wireless adapter network in pc to pc is you are going to setup by adhoc to adhoc connection, itself detect for sharing a network without any router needed, but if you do such simple network connection use wireless router, its definitely work easily. Aumatomaticall detect wireless router on your wireless adapter network.. Good luck!
Ethernet cable out of DSL modem, to current router (if you have one).
Ethernet cable out of current router (if you have one) to new Wireless N router.
If you currently have a wireless G router, keep it, or, use the new Wireless G/N router alone. You will need to set up all security settings again if you remove your current router, and if the new router is N only, you will need to make sure all your wireless connecting computers have wireless N cards in them.
Hello JAZZYBELINDA, I read your post and wanted to know if you are able to access the internet if you connect the modem directly to one of your computers.I would like to make sure that we do not have a problem with the network. What errors are you seeing and what lights do you see on the modem and router? Please send your phone number via email or private message and I will review the network for you.Thank you for giving us the opportunity to help you. The 2wire dsl modem/router cannot be use with a another cable modem , since this 2wire device is also a modem/router and its made for the DSL conenction that's why it wont work with Cox cable, the best thing that you can do is to ask Cox to give a wireless modem/router like this 2wire so you can still use the wireless connection of your computer..
You must log on to the browser interface of the router (usually for
2wire they use 192.168.1.254) run the set up wizard it will come to a
screen which asks for a key code, this key code is provided by your
ISP, you can try one of these and see if it works
if you have a PPPOE connection (you have a user name and password to log on to the internet with use this one.
if it is not PPPOE use this
to manually configure the router use this 5225-2374-WG62-22AS-BJ7P
If these do not work call your internet provider and ask them for the key code.
you may try this and see if this help solve your problem
Step 1try to connect your computer directly to the modem and check if you will also experience problem
Step 2: Shutdown the computer. Step 3: reset the router while power on then Unplug the router’s power cable. Step 4: Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds. Step 5: Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear
stable. Step 6: Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable. Step 7: Power on the computer on and configure router settings if neede
Step 8:test the Internet connection.
if this still didnot work, maybe you need to upgrade the firmware of your router
