Question about Maytag Refrigerators

1 Answer

May Tag Referigerator

We just bought a fridge (model # MBR1952KES) and needed to switch the side in which the door opens. Everything went fine until trying to attach the fridge door once everything was changed over. There is no opportunity on the fridge door (freezer on bottom) to switch over so now all the hinges are on the left but there are only holes on the right of the door. It seems the door was only made for right hand hinges.
The fridge is stainless steel with a handle on the front by way of allan wrench - again there is nothing there to move the handle to the other side.
Suggestions?

The MBR1952KES Has the hinges on the right only, you need to order a custom made door to move hinges on the left.

Most likely that light is caused by a refrigerant leak somewhere in the fridge system. Most likely the fridge evaporator, but you would need a leak detector to confirm this. It could also be that the fan to cool the compressors is not running all the time, or that the compressor itself is weak. Do you have any error codes? Is there a ball of ice forming on the back wall of the fridge section on the left side towards about halfway down from the top? what is build date on the serial tag, located on the frame of the fridge inside the freezer door at the top. Good luck, hope this helps.

Freezer works but fridge remains warm.

The same fan that circulates air in the freezer also blows air in to the fridge. If you open the freezer door and hold the door switch closed you should hear the fan running. If not you have a failed motor or motor control. Look at the back wall of the freezer section and see if there is a heavy frost build up. If so. you have a defrost system problem. Please post back with what you find and with the complete model number and I will try to walk you through the steps of checking everything.
Thanks/Mike

After compressor start up...unit will run until tstat satisfies..then it stays off until you smack the door of the frige on the freezer just above ice and water dispenser...any help would be great..thanks...

sounds like you could have a bad cold control, when you think it should be running open the fridge door and move the control to make it colder or warmer,if nothing happens tap near the control, sometimes when the control is failing it sticks inside and when you move it or tap it or hit the fridge it will work for that cycle.send the model number when you ask for answers so i can look up your machine and see what model you have and i can look up the parts you might need.if you open the fridge door and look up near the ceiling and on the right side you'll see a tag with the model and serial numbers just need the model number.

Whirlpool fridge compressor will not kick in

call your parts store, give them the model number, open the fridge door on the right hand wall up near the ceiling you'll see a tag with the model number, tell them you need a start device and they will sell you one.do you hear a clicking sound or smell anything, when my device went i could smell it.unplug the fridge, remove the bottom panel in the rear and on the compressor you'll see a clip, pop it off, slide the start device off, shake it,if you hear pieces rattling around inside it,it's bad, leave the wires on until you get the new part.next time send the model number,a bad timer, board or cold control could also cause this.if the machine gets stuck in defrost the compressor won't run.if you open the freezer door and the fan is blowing,it's not in defrost and most likely it will be the start device.hope this helps.

My refrigerator side is not maintaining a cool temperature, and the green temperature light is off (the freezer side works fine)

the problem is in the freezer side, all it does is blow clod air from the freezer to the fridge side so if the fridge is warm the freezer side is either iced up or the fan isn't blowing, open the freezer door,do you hear the fan blowing,if not you could have a bad evap fan motor, also check the back inside wall of the freezer, you might have to pull the second from the bottom bin out and touch the wall and see if it's iced up or if there's frost on it,if so you have a defrost problem, let me know what you find and send the model number ,open the fridge door,on the right side up near the ceiling you'll see a tag with the model and serial number,i just need the model number and i'll be glad to help you

Both Fridge and Freezer quit working properly at the same time.

I will need the model number as shown in photo below where the locations are most likely to be. While I am waiting I am going to go over some models like yours to see what may possibly be wrong.

No. check this post from right here.

Question: was the fridge running when you went to pick it up ?
Was it already on ?
My thinking is that you have the ice build up problem too and that it never thawed. If you unplug it, thawing could take days. Seriously. If you take the inside panel off and get some heat on it
only an hour or so.
You have the exact same model I do, and it works good, just designed poorly. It needs a drain hole on that condensor.
And your fan probably is fine. Do not spend $500.

Fridge not cooloing right

HI I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THAT YOU ARE...I NOTICED THAT THE FRIDGE DOOR WAS OUT OF LINE WITH THE FREEZER DOOR AT THE TOP...IF THE FRIDGE WAS EMPTY IT WORKED FINE, BUT WHEN WE REFILLED IT,IT WOULD STOP COOLING AGAIN,I THINK IT'S GOT TO DO WITH THE WEIGHT ON THE DOOR MAKING THE DIFFERENCE IN MY CASE...I BELIEVE IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE SWITCH AT THE TOP, INSIDE THE FRIDGE THAT OPERATES THE LIGHT AND THE TEMP CONTROL IN MY CASE.TRY OPENING THE DOOR JUST A LITTLE SO THAT YOU CAN SEE IF THE SWITCH IS BEING FULLY CLOSED...I THINK I'M GOING TO HAVE TO ADJUST MY FRIDGE DOOR UP TO GET IT TO DO THIS FOR ME...WILL LET YOU KNOW IF THIS WORKS!!!!!
