No it does the same thing in safe mode. I thought it may be a video card driver problem. but I am not an expert.

Are you using an onboard video or do you have a video card installed?

Is it starting in "Safe Mode"? In the four corners you will see "Safe Mode". MM85

Try right click desktop go to properties/display setting check that display is set properly go to advanced settings check out there if everything OK go to control panel/device drivers uninstall video drivers reboot it should boot with standard vga drivers check if display is OK then try loading your proper video drivers

Download the version of Ubuntu you require, burn it to a disc. Start the Sony up, booting from the DVD drive and install a fresh OS.

One of the function keys should get you into the boot menu, F9-F12, to manually select the CD/DVD drive. Pressing Esc or Tab on VAIO logo may display the right information to show which key to press.

Have you tried booting a standard Windows setup disc and checked if the hard disk is working ok?

Vaio can be a fussy devil to boot the way you want it too...
Typically when you see reference to a partition not being detected, it means that the hard disk drive is failing to register in the laptop, or has been damaged.
I am going to assume that the laptop is not detecting the CD and able to boot from it, even though it is set too...
Have her try looking in the BIOS again to see if it can be set to "Check for boot disk".
Most systems also have a key that can be pressed to provide a boot menu, prior to booting automatically.
With the Vaio, it is the "ESC" key. If this key is pressed, just after seeing the Vaio screen, you should be able to force it to boot from CD/DVD.

IF YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN WINDOWS PASSWORD THERE IS A BETTER WAY TO LOGIN TO WINDOWS. WHEN YOU START THE COMPUTER EVEN BEFORE WINDOWS STARTS BOOTING KEEP PRESSING F8 AGAIN AND AGAIN. HERE YOU WILL GET A MENU. IN THAT SELECT SAFE MODE AND ENTER. NOW WINDOWS WILL BOOT IN SAFE MODE. HERE YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR ACCOUNT DETAILS OR CREAT NEW ACCOUNTS .
PLS REPLY OR COMMENT. THANKS

When i start up my computer the screen blinks like it has a bad connection then it goes black

the connection may have come loose or screen damaged, try booting in safe mode. if screen still does nothing you will have to check the above,
if screen works, the display settings may be too high.
