Question about Logitech QuickCam Messenger Web Camera

Doesn't work on my home network on MSN/WLM

Hi there, my webcam doesnt work on the latest version of WLM on my home pc. It works on my pc but not on my home one. It merely says connecting for a long period of time before automatically disconnecting. It also does this if i try to view someone elses webcam.

Please help as it is bugging me. I have been told to open ports r something but dont know which ones/how and if this is the full solution to this problem.

This could be a problem with WLM's permissions with the firewall. First check to make sure the webcam is working by using the software that came with it. And make sure if it is a quickcam that the software it came with is active. If your home PC isn't recognizing the cam it could be not plugged into a USB 2.0 port, or the driver is corrupt etc etc. If it is recognizing it then check that WLM has proper permissions in your firewall for sharing the image. Also allow WLM to calibrate the webcam, which is available under it's tools.

Further if the latest version doesn't want to work with your webcam there could just be a simple incompatability. I'd try to rollback the wlm back to an earlier version.

My camera well work with logitech but wont work with live messenger, first i got a black screen.now all i get is a green screen.can anybody help me?

Sounds like you may not have configured your webcam to WLM and the program is looking at a video card instead of your webcam
Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

http://www.testmycam.com/

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to WLM (MSN)

CONFIGURE SOFTWARE to MSN
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the MSN software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Open MSN
Click 'Open Menu'
From 'Tools; navigate to, and click, 'Audio and Video setup'
Set your speakers
Click 'Test' - if OK, move on.
Set your mic as default
Use the slider to set volume and test.
Click 'Next'
This takes you to the video setup
Your webcam should be broadcasting - if not - make sure the webcam is set as default - restart MSN
Use 'Webcam Settings'to fine tune the picture.
Click 'Finish'

you do not need another driver version for your camera unless you upgraded from xp to vista ...if you only updated the MSN program and it works with other IM programs...it means that the problem is the MSN ...try to reinstall the program ...or to see if there are any settings you skipped...
