Ok this is a common problem and as hard as it may be to understand it is ya DVD recorder.. most probably the Write Laser is flakey, a common problem.. I would advise that you swap out the DVD with another.. to prove this or as a "Fix" maybe even try a USB connected DVD burner and use that instead.

Well actually any machine you are using for this purpose must contain 2 lens, 1 for dvd and the other for the HDD, chances are the DVD lens need changing.

Yep I'd say iths the dvd recording lens, You will need to take it to A CERTIFIED SERVICE AGENT to have it repaired, to not take it to a fly by night tech.. or attempt repais your self, Although changing the lens is quite easy, Its rather difficlult to align and caliberate without the propper tools or knowing the propper settings. Then you will need to have the service remote to actually reset the machine to detect and use the new lens.

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jul 29, 2008

No Sir,, it should just set you back a few dollars. The lens should be preety cheap and i dont think the service center charges that much.. Anyway basically it should be less than 1/4 the cost of a new one. *

I have a Magnavox H2160MW9 A. It has a dubbing feature and says I can copy from HDD to DVD. But when I follow the instructions "Selected Title Dubbing", The dubbing selection is grayed out. Note that I'm...

Choose Dub on remote. Choose HDD to DVD. When you are looking at your HDD Titles, move the cursor (the highlighted box, using the left/right buttons on your remote) to the title you want to Dub. Hit the OK button on your remote. Then hit the Dubbing button on your remote. If you are ready to record, move cursor down to Start Dubbing. Choose speed, then hit OK button.

Will not dub to dvd-r from HDD in high speed mode

It will only high speed dub in the speed it was recorded in. You can dub, for example, SP on your hard drive to SP on a DVD. You cannot dub high speed, for example, SP on your hard drive to LP on a DVD.

DVD Burning doesn't work..no Disc in Setup..

Been checking out my m/c and found that there are many -r & -rw discs the m/c does not recognise which gives rise to this problem. However the m/c does recognise VERBATIM discs and I have been able to record and dub to them with no problems.

DVD problem

I've had the same problem. Are you using x8 DVD-R? I had no problems with the old x4 discs, but had the (long) Self Check process and a failed dubbing occur between 1/100 and 2/100 in the dubbing process with the x8 discs. I've found two workarounds: 1) The problem doesn't seem to occur if the recordings are made with hi-speed dubbing enabled. I do this now as a default, but the loss of the ws tag is a pain . If I still get a dubbing failure with hi-speed dubbing, a quick power down/power on of the unit seems to rectify the situation. 2) If you record a "leader" in hi-speed dub mode of a minute or two, and dub it onto a x8 DVD-R first, you can then copy non-hi-speed dub recordings onto the disc. Not quite sure why this works, but it does - it's like the first minute or two being dubbed over needs to be hi-speed enabled to be written from the memory of the E-85 to the disc, but once that's done it dubs as it should. btw, another process that crashes the unit is if you try an change the thumbnails on a x8 DVD-R. Not the end of the world but again annoying on expensive equipment less than two years' old. DVD-RAMs are not affected by the problem in my experience. Apparently there's some firmware in the US that addresses the problem with x8 discs - http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/vDownloads?storeId=15001&langId=-1&page=DVDFirmware , but Panasonic UK don't distribute it. I think the E-85 is a good box but it has proven too buggy and I'm thinking of upgrading it, possibly when the new 85 is released by Panasonic in a few weeks. Good luck
