Question about Standard (CRT) Televisions

1 Answer

No Picture after hooking up PS2

I didn't accept you solution since it was a question and there was no place to reply to your question. I didn't want to end our communication. I have Video 2 in the front of the TV with 3 ports- red, white and yellow. In the back of the tv there are 5. 2 Red, 2 White and 1 yellow. I hope its something simple! Thank you for your fast reply to my problem.

Yes, DVD/VCR works on video 1 and PS2 works on Video 2 and I can switch between them. This is a bit confusing since I am unsure where I should be posting my reponses! Thanks.

I have a coax (white cable with thin needle and screw connection- I'm guessing) going from the tv to the cable box and from the cable box to the cable hook up line. All connections are tight and fine. I did not have the DVD/VCR hooked up when the problem occured although I did have it connected before I put in the PS2. The cable was not running through the DVD/VCR- I dont think. Sorry.

  • PandaLdy6 Jul 27, 2008

ok- I think it is a case of too many look-alike cables and ins and outs in a tight, cramped space- difficult to get in and really check it out.. I got it working. When disconnecting my DVD/VCR I removed the wrong cable. Seems there was no connection from the cable box to the tv! HAHAHA. I knew it was something stupid and simple. Happy that it was! Standby while I put everything back and see if its all okay. :) Thank you !

Thank you . All is well now. Whew- glad it was nothing really wrong!. Excellent service. Havea good night/day.

will you be able to get the model number of your TV? so that i will be able to check the limitations of the unit.

if you use the yellow ports from the front and both at the back then plug them to your PS2 or DVD player or VCR, can you view them one by one by switching video sources on your TV?

reason why i asked is that you may get a conflict because there is a possibility that the ports have the same terminal, this is common to old TV because i have one.

well both will do, you can post your responses here, i have lots and lots of time to answer you.

so switching from Video 1 and Video 2 is working, thats goos, now, your cable line for the cable TV, does it go through a Coaxial port on the TV or going through a VCR?

if it is going through a VCR you have to set that to channel 3 or 4, when it is turned on.

if it is going through a Coax port, will you unscrew the cable line, then inspect if you will be able to feel a movement on the port of you try to move it left to right? if you feel a movement check if you will be able to tighten the screw that keeps the coax port in place to the TV.

okay, so all we need to do is reprogram your channeling, remove the RCA cables or turn off the DVD/VCR and PS2, leaving the coax cable in. now open a regular TV channel, using your remote, go to your TV's menu, then go to channel programming, select auto then let it finish scanning for channels, once you are done, try to plug the ps2 back, play a game or a movie, then switch back to your regular cable channel.

if this did not solve the issue, and you still have the snow, while the PS2 is turned on and playing, go back to a regular channel (which is snow) then reprogram you channels again, let me know if your TV will be able to scan when the PS2 is plugged in and playing

We had our ps2 hooked up to an old rca tv and was using the satelite remote for it channel had to be on 00 for the ps2 to work. We got a new tv and hav moved the rca and ps2 to another place but don't...

New tv's don't use dead channels like 00 anymore for there inputs.. They use sources to change from different inputs.. Make sure you have your ps2 hooked up into input plugs on the tv and then turn it on the ps2 then look on the new controller for the tv & find a button saying source .. Press that until you see your ps2 on the screen. If not check your connections try again.

yes , you need to be in GAME mode on the TV , since you don't have the remote you can still access GAME mode from the menu button on the front of the TV . you must be in GAME mode for your PS2 to work. thanks

If you have HD T.V then make sure you have the settings correct on your console and leads for HD. Also check that the leads are pushed in firmly on both the TV and the console

TV does not recognize PS2 input

On the TV you should have a video, input or mode button. If you press that button while the PS2 is on it should pickup the signal. You need to be in video mode instead of cable mode since you are using the red, yellow, white cables. Many TVs have a few video modes so press it wait a few seconds and try again if it does not work. Hope this helps:)

Yellow Video Cable Won't Work

Hi there!
First of all try another PS2 cable. Make sure you select the correct input. May be a loose connection inside on the actual video input socket. May also be a faulty video circuit caused by static discharge from an external source (Lightning,Power Surges). The latter will have to be repaired by a repair technician and can be rather costly, so shop around first. Good Luck,JUS004

PS2 hook-up

I would suggest to feed video from another source such as DVD or VCR to the same input, if the video is visible from other sources on your TV; that means the video cable from your PS2 is defective. If you did not see any video from the DVD or VCR nor the PS2, it means that there maybe a loose connection inside the TV on the video input.
Hope this helps.

Toshiba CF36G40 36" TV (picture snowy)

you have a bad tuner you can replace it or use vcr if you still have one around. hook it up with av cable like your ps2 and hook your cable to it and use it to change channels. If you want to replace the tuner it will require soldering and you will have to order it somewhere. i would try partsore.com. The tuner is the metal can the cable goes into inside the tv.
