Why does it say protect unplug - Sony DAV-DZ100 System

When you've got good volume, try unplugging the speakers (only for a very short time) to see if that whining noise is still there or if it's stopped. We're trying to see if the whining is related to the low volume and "protect" or if it's only coincidental.

Try unplugging all the cables (except the power cord). Turn the player on & off several times & see if that whining noise acts the same. Also see if the player goes into "protect". What we're trying to do here is see if it NEVER goes into "protect" with the cables unplugged.

Last... try to get it to start & run without going into "protect", with all the cables unplugged (except power). Plug the cables in, one at a time, and see if plugging one of the cables in forces it into "protect". If so, there's something wrong with that cable or whatever's on the other end of that cable. Unplug it again & restart the player - no "protect"? Wait a little while, plug the cable in. "Protect"? Check the other end of that cable.

If it goes into "protect" with nothing plugged in except the power, then the player is probably a write-off, ready to be replaced (it's not very often that DVD players are worth repairing these days).

Check speaker wires, any wire seems shorted and causing Protect Unplug error message in receiver.
Good way to sort out bad wire is plug one speaker at a time, turn On receiver check, turn Off, then plug next speaker wire until you find out what speaker wire activates protection circuit of receiver.

Disconnect all speaker wires at the receiver. Then power the unit on, if it stays on, post a comment on this thread and I will help you troubleshoot further. If "Protect" remains on, you need to have your receiver serviced. Hope this helps.

I know that almost all new equipment since 99 or so on up has these. They are too sensitive. This is a system program that will put stereo in protect mode when turned up loud or have a lot of bass on to stop from blowing audio outputs.

Protet mode is a special diagnostic mode that starts when a fault is detected.

When in protection mode the unit is prevented from starting by protection circuit, so to prevent further damage.

Check the speakers and speakers wiring, a contact in speaker wires, or faulty speakers can send the unit in protection.

Try unplugging power cable for one hour or so. then connect cable back and see if you get rid of protect state. Sometimes accumulation of electrostatic charges inside circuit capacitors can kick in protect mode. In that case unplugging the unit from main for some times can get rid of electrostatic charges, and reset circuits by draining power completely.
If that was the problem, you will not get Protect when plugging back power cable.

If you do all the above and still get Protect, then there is a real fault.

In that case the unit may be disassembled and tested to find the fault.

If that is the case I suggest contacting the manufacturer at the number listed on the owners manual, or asking a quote on repair to a local technician.

Protect mode will kicking whenever a fault is detected.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.

I think, your Home theater gives you error message " protect unplug", means home theater has problem in Amplifier section and will not be power up to function.
You should check Amp section aspacialy Amp Output stage.

The audio amplifiers ICs of your device are damaged.You gotta take it to service center.Good luck.
