Many of the so-called radio techs are 'hacks' who know little about electronics & lack the proper test equipment to perform tuneups correctly, so you may have wasted your money. Find a place that has a good reputation & ask them to check out your unit. To complicate matters, the web has many sites written by others who are just as unschooled & we often see the blind leading the blind, so I wouldn't recommend trying it yourself as you don't probably don't have an accurate wattmeter, oscilloscope & dummy load, nor the expertise required.

you will need a good watt meter and dummy load. or any cb shop can do it for $8.. thats the normal charge here in texas. keep the wattage low, so you don't damage the amp. less than 5 watts max

Adjusting the vr pots

A word of advice, never buy a radio second hand. Used radios are sold for some odd reason, and it may be because it is broken. And yes you can do it with your meter, you just have to tune the radio using Coarse and Fine adjustments, also use peaking if you know how, to get a better transmit and receive.

Good luck!
