Hp pavilion shuts off after booting up

My fan had become louder during the last few days. Now, it shuts off after booting up. The CPU fan is still loud . I opened it and cleaned the dirt off but the problem persists.

it seems like the power supply is shutting off after it has been on for 5 minutes

There's probably dirt still inside the fan slowing it down; it may be instructive to just boot into the BIOS and pull up the health screen that shows temperatures on the board; perhaps the CPU fan or chipset fan is failing and the temperatures are going too high, causing the failsafe powerdown to occur.  Just replace the fans and make sure the heatsinks are all mounted solidly; perhaps a new obstruction has presented itself in your PC's airflow, though it is also possible that you're running without A/C and need a better fan in the room or are running an application that really uses up CPU power (causing it to dissipate more heat.)

Why does my pc's power light indicator keeps blinking red (2 beeps) after it powers on and begins to boot, running for about a minute or two?

Hi

This means your PC is doing a Thermal Shut down, the CPU is getting to hot, this means the fan is not running at all or fast enough, or is dusty causing loss of cooling to the CPU.

To fix this open the case look at the fan if its running as it gets louder I would say in your case it is, you need to remove all the dust from the fan and the heatsink I use a small USB fan from poundland (UK) this should stop this error.

Hp pavillion zd8000shuts down during boot up not hot

Try the Memory mods, the CMOS battery. You have cleaned the fan and vents, right? May be a component failure, hard to say on a older machine. Take a look at HP support: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SupportTaskIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=434660&taskId=110

The fan in hp pavilion dv7-1245dx does not work

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

The CPU cooling fan usually sits on top of a heat sink which is held tightly agaist the core of the CPU by the clasps you refered to. It soumds to me like the CPU has oveheated and will only function for a few seconds. If it's a fairly new CPU, you may be able to buy one online at places like http://www.tigerdirect.com. If it's an older model, you will have to try & find one at places like E-bay.

If you install a replacement make sure the CPU fan/heatsink clamps the CPU flush against the heat sink (apply a thin coating termal paste to the top of the CPU core).
NOTE: If the plastic clamps attached to the motheboard which hold the fan clips are broken - forget it! A new CPU will just ovehat again.

I have a HP Pavilion dv9810us laptop. It is about 3.5 yrs old. Since last 1 yr I am noticing that the laptop is becoming extremely heated when I open any heavy resource hungry application. Once it gets too...

Hi.

If the laptop is getting very hot and shutting down then you no doubt need to clean the CPU fan and the air vents of any build up of dust that may have collected over the 3 years you've had it.

Get a can of compressed air and give short blasts through the air vents and the CPU fan grill. You should see dust shoot out of the vents when you depress the button of the can.

The CPU fan is located underneath that laptop and the air vents can be located at the sides or the back of the laptop.

If it still gets hot and shuts down after doing this then I suggest that you take the laptop to a reutable PC repair store and have them clean the inside of the laptop for you and have it serviced at the same time.

Hope this helps!!!

Regards.

Our fan is constantly running now for the last last 3 days when our computer is on. We have the computer on all day and shut it down at night. It is louder than normal. Why is this and can it be fixed. ...

Its not a problem if you have the computer running all day long. Get an additional fan for your computer. An additional fan will reduce the noise as more fans running at low speed produce low sound that a single fan at high speeds. Make sure that the CPU is free from dust. More the DUST, higher the heat and higher the noise.
