well, i just got this moniter off a guy i know, and when i shipped it over to where i wanted it, it wouldnt turn on. when he had the moniter, it worked perfectly fine, and i assumed that it would be okay when i got it. although i did not bring it over myself, it was said that it was on a pasenger seat of a van, and it had tilted over onto the screen. i pluged the power in, and i plugged it inot my computer. but it wont turn on! i tryed different sockets that all fonction, but nothing. i want to open it up, to see the problem, but i cant do that either. i took out all the nails, and took it off the stand, but i cant get the face off, what am i doing wrong?
If it is the HP w1707 monitor, the power button is at the top right of the monitor (you may have to stand up and look at the top view of the monitor to see it just behind the front [screen] side of the monitor). I agree, it is easily missed. I hope this solves your problem.

The E173FP has a known issue with the power supply going out. The flashing power light or not turning on are the classic symptoms of this issue. Check out our web site at: www.ccl-la.com. We have a step by step repair guide posted that will guide to doing the repair yourself. It involves changing a few capacitors on the power supply. If you can solder then you should be able to do the repair yourself. If you don't want to do the repair we do offer a repair service for $30 plus return shipping. If you have any additional questions just let us know at: email@example.com
I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.
Maybe you guys should make sure the moniter is on the right input, because if moniters are on a wrong input then they go into sleep mode. If that doesn't work make sure that the cables are fully inserted! Hope I Helped!
Any high switching power supply of the same voltage and amperage rating will work for you. You may have to cut the end off of your old one and wire it to the new one to make it work but don't waste your money buying a specific power supply. Good Luck!
i finally just gave up and called samsung. 1-800-samsung
they took me through some steps to see if that would work. gave them model number, etc. there is some defect apparently in that model syncmaster731n. they are sending me a new one, and i have to send the old one back. they are paying for shipping, and not charging me for the new one. so if it is bothering you, i would give them a call and see what they tell you. hope this helps someone out there.
First of all you need a sound card on your computer with a Spk. (Speaker) or Phones (headphones) Out Jack it might be a symbol of a small speaker or headphones. You have to be sure you are getting a actual sound output signal from this sound card too. If the sound card is not working your moniter speakers would not have a signal to drive it. You also need a 1/8" Stereo 2 male stereo plugs on both ends, one end plugs in back of moniter other plugs in back of computer like I mentiond above. Make sure your Mute button is not selected on your computers volume button usally at bottom right of screen. Make sure the volume buttons are up to aprox 3/4 up also. Then for last on the moniter look in the menu i think you might have to keep pressing the menu button but i kind of forget now but its a Spk setting and volume setting in this speaker setup within the moniter as well make sure this is turned on and set at a higher volume level as well. Thats about all I can say without taking the moniter apart and checking the jack and wires and speakers. I would suggest you take it to a electronics or a tv repair or computer repair person to go any further then this. Hope you take time to read all of this I tried to put every step in here to help anyone out with this problem. Thanks for reading.
