DS Lite Volume Slider not working

Stuck on high volume. Recently had it serviced and it's been that way since. Don't feel like taking it back but will if necessary (covered under warranty still) or is there an easy fix?

Tip

DS Lite not turning on? Read this tip to find out how to fix it!

Have you dropped your DS Lite and now it rattles?

Is it charging but not turning on?

Then this is the guide for you!!

A very common problem with the DS Lite is that when it is dropped a small chip called the L2 Inductor comes away from the motherboard. This will still enable the DS to charge but you will not be able to switch it on. This guide will take you through step by step how to repair your DS Lite.

Things you will need :-

Tri-Wing screwdriver - 808dc98.jpg

Small phillips screwdriver - 62cc67c.jpg

A case opening tool - c6a93f9.jpg

A soldering iron - 6afee1e.jpg

Some solder - 864fcea.jpg

If you are lucky then your L2 inductor is still rattling around inside your DS. If it is lost then they can be bought very cheaply off of ebay :- L2 Inductor Ebay (Please note - This is not my ebay username, just the person that I always get my parts from)

Ok now we have everything it is time to start. Clear a nice big area for you to work in.

First remove any game cartridges from their slots and the DS stylus, like so -

ff0a01b.jpg

Next remove the battery cover and 2 small rubber bungs here -

ad37b16.jpg

Underneath the 2 rubber bungs are 2 phillips screws.

Next remove the battery and take out the circled 3 phillips screws. You do not need to remove the uncircled phillips screw in the battery compartment.

Next, remove the 4 circled tri-wing screws using the tri-wing screwdriver -

Ok, thats all the screws removed, now to lift the case off. Pulling up from the back with 2 fingers on the shoulder buttons gently pull up and towards you but only enough so that you can get the case tool in to help with leverage. See below pictures -

1b023a2.jpg

b39b350.jpg

Work the case tool around the gap and the top cover should lift off easily. DO NOT FORCE IT! You will then be able to see the motherboard like so -

b8a30eb.jpg

The L2 Inductor sits to the left of the motherboard, right underneath the power switch -

03b3bab.jpg

Make sure that when you took the case apart if the L2 inductor was rattling around, it has not been lost. Hopefully you have managed to find it. What you need to do now is resolder the L2 inductor back onto the motherboard. Hold the L2 Inductor in place and carefully apply the soldering iron to each end, like so (it does not matter which way round the L2 Inductor goes) -

71cacac.jpg

If you need to hold the L2 Inductor use something like tweezers.

Once you have secured the L2 Inductor onto the motherboard apply a tiny amount of solder onto each end of the L2 Inductor just to give it a bit more strength.

Thats it! You are done! Congratulations, you have repaired your DS Lite!

Now all you have to do is put it back together and you are finished. There are a couple of important things you need to know when putting your DS Lite back together.

You must make sure both the power switch slider and the volume switch slider are in the right place. The power switch slider should spring back to where it is supposed to but these pictures will confirm where they need to be -

Volume switch all the way to the left

79ea2ed.jpg
Power switch all the way to the right as you look at it

b24d383.jpg

The case sliders also need to be in the right place too, if you do not get this right you will break the little tabs off of the switches!

Power slider all the way to the right

When you re-assemble your ds, start refitting the case from the front backwards. Get it all in line on the front and the back should drop down with ease. Again do not force anything!!

Replace all the screws in reverse order and you are 100% done!! Give yourself a pat on the back!!

My nintendo ds lite as no sound but it works fine with head phones in can you help me please

It works well with the headphones?
Well.. That's odd.
Check the left side of your DS volume.
there's a toggle button that says
- VOL +
======
toggle it rightly,as the volume will get higher. Maybe your headphones can adjust the volume. So either contact www.nintendo.com or call Nintendo 1-800-255-3700. Or if you like your DS with headphones, keep it that way.

My Nintendo DS microphone broke for no reason and my sister's also broke for no reason...What should I do?

Go thru these steps to see if its a configuration issue with the DS:

Restart your Nintendo DS. Sometimes a quick restart will fix your microphone problem. Do this on both systems. All the steps that I mention, do them on both systems.

Check whether your microphone volume is up. Access this feature through the DS menu. If the microphone’s volume is down, it will not receive any sound.

Make sure the volume on your Nintendo DS is up. If your speakers are off, you won't hear whether your microphone works.

If these steps do not correct the problem, then systems will need to be serviced cause the main board would be bad at that point.

The sound of my new nintendo ds lite is very quit

Hi Susan,

It is possible that the volume button has slipped off of it's setting on the switch below it and that while you think you have turned the volume up it is only partially turned up.

If it is a new DS bring it back to the shop (12 month warranty on new DS systems) they are obliged to repair or replace the DS.

My ds has no sound on it what do I do

Mark sure you have the volume up, I'm sure you have already checked that, but on a DS Lite it's a slider at the bottom, on a DSi it's a button on the side. If it is no sound in any game anywhere then it sounds like the speakers have died. You will need to give Nintendo a call, they will fix it, probably for free for you. 1-800-255-3700 is the number in the US

Nintendo ds lite

If that is the only problem with your NDS then you can try looking at the volume control, if too loosen then maybe you have a broken volume control plastic piece or even a broken solder or broken volume potentiometer maybe caused by a bump or drop, where you may need to carefully open and check this part for deffects or damage.
You would need some thomson, blade and philips small screwdrivers to dissasemble. Its also useful a guide and video to do the work right without anything else damaged.

Good Luck...
