I replaced my car battery in my 1996 Volkswagon Jetta and now the radio won't work. It actually says SAFE on the dial. How can I reset it

You will need to enter the radio unlock code. The lock code maybe on a sticker in the trunk, or consult a VW dealer to get the unlock code.

My radio says "Safe" and will not turn on

You will have to go to the Volkswagen dealer for this, they are the only ones that can give you the correct code. It will involve your car serial number too.

Radio

My son has a 2004 Volkswagon Jetta that had a dead radio. It occurred after my daughter -in- law experienced a dead battery, requiring a jump start. The radio was totally dead. All fuses in the fuse panel were checked first. My local Volkswagon service center was kind enough to assist me in removing the radio from the instrument panel (special "key" required) free of charge. In the back of the radio is a 10-amp mini fuse that was blown. Check it out before you spend megabucks replacing anything else.
