Question about Frigidaire ATF6000ES Front Load Washer

"Green" He Detergents Available?

We have a septic tank and generally use a natural liquid laundry detergent such as 7th generation or Trader Joes. Also I frequently use Woolite on my sweaters and silks. Is there an HE detergent alternative that will work in our front loading machine? Can we continue to use the above detergents?

Because all modern detergents work quite well with any application, that challenge would be totally up to you to make that selection.

Solution, detergents that produce low suds are better suited for front-loading washers.

Good luck.

Can i use dry detergent in my F&P model GWL11 washing machine. my husband and i have a bet on this answer

If this is a high efficiency washer you can use an HE dry detergent or an HE lignin detergent or the new pod detergents. Do not use non HE detergent in an HE machine. The difference is the amount t of suds that the detergent makes. If it is not an HE washer you can use whatever detergent you like HE or non HE. Many front load units have a adapter that you use when using dry vs. Liquid detergents.

HE Front loaders only - Prevent clogging and stop towels from stinking. Green...

First and foremost, stop using all liquid detergents. Switch to a powdered HE detergent. The liquid HE detergents build up in the washers drain and sit there and will catch everything. The buildup is due to a lack of rinsing power to effectively move the mass and will become really funky as a result. This buildup will burp and backwash into your washer causing your towels to stink horribly at first and then other clothing. If you're experiencing this and you can smell the funk in your washer when you open it, you can fix this efficiently and on the cheap. Buy citric acid, which comes from fruits and is completely safe for the environment. You can purchase small amounts at your grocery store or check Amazon for bulk, also see the link below. Just use 2 tablespoons and set your machine to the hottest setting and longest cycle. Do this once a week until you don't smell anything in the washer and your laundry. Be sure you switch to the powdered HE detergent as the powered detergents break down more effectively and do not clog your washers drain.

Anyone can suggest me some sewer tank maintenance tips?

I think you'd avoid poring detergent water into your sewer tank and mustn't use hard cleaner to clean your toilets as it will kill all the bacteria in our sewer tanks or never flush plastic items.By following these tips you can increase the life of your septic tank.

My GE Profile washing machine leaves soap suds in the bottom and on the clothes. I use Cheer liquid detergent. My husband says it is because of placing too heavy of items, such as towels, in the machine....

Use ONLY the recommended amount of detergent per the label on the detergent.
Pour detergent in the tub first then start the water, then add the laundry.
Do not overload the machine.
Use a bathroom scale to weigh 12-15 pounds of laundry and no more.
Big tubs invite more laundry.
Don't be fooled by a big tub.

Can we use powered Dreft Detergent to wash our baby clothes. Have been unable to find liquid detergent for baby clothes. Please respond promptly.

I would highly NOT recommend it. powder likes to clump inside the front loads. I would use a fragrence(SP) free soap if dreft is not available inliquid or h.e. as well be aware most baby detergents are not flame retardent. meaning in case of fire the soap residue left on the clothes naturally do not resist to flames as most detergents do.

Can liquid detergents be used in a dishwasher?

Only dishwasher detergent can be used in a dishwasher. Some of them are liquids. Regular liquid detergents such as dish detergent or laundry detergent is too sudsy and it will make so many suds that they will be all of the dishes and the floor if used.

Smelly clothes

A solution from the internet:
Make a boil wash (with no clothes and detergents) put into the powder drawer a cup of bicarbonate of soda.
It should clean the machine and move out the bad smell.

I have a front loading machine also and am not willing to have to constantly clean out the machine; the soap and fabric softeners you use are building up between the inner and outer drums (and on the drum itself sometimes). Because the machines door is so tightly sealed (to prevent water leakage) the smell from this buildup is awful. I finally found the solution.
MAGGIE'S SOAP NUTS -- they are all natural (grow on trees) and will remove the grime from your drum and also clean your clothes (you won't even need fabric softener anymore). Stop using commercial detergents and fabric softeners and start using Maggie's Soap Nuts.
They are not very cheap but they work great --
I have found that making a liquid out of the soap nuts and storing it in a bottle works better than putting them in the sack cloth they come with (because front loaders do not agitate constantly like regular machines, the cloth bag sits on the clothes and sometimes leaves a stain -- the liquid will not leave a stain.
YOU WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM AND HAVE SOFTER CLOTHES TO BOOT (without fabric softener so you save some money there). They are also better for septic tanks, the environment and your health!
I believe Whole Foods sells them and they are also on the internet at

Note: Also go to -- they are going to buy these in bulk to cut the cost in half but don't have them yet. You should be able to buy them there soon.
Note: Forgot to tell you to run some of this thru your machine with hot water before washing your clothing to clean out the buildup that is already in the machine
And dont forget to rate me pl. Merry Xmas to you too.
