I have a 36 inch Sony Trinitron thats doing the same thing. Was hoping to find out how to fix it! I love the TV and don't want to toss it if it is something easy to fix!

When the tv is turned on after a few seconds it switches to the view timer mode and the tv picture is lost. I opened the rear panel an began disconnecting and reconnecting wires thinking a wire was loose, well this worked for a month or so eventually started turning off again. Now I have no tv picture, and I'm out of ideas. I believe it has something to do with the power cord, but I'm no repair guy. I think I'd rather trash the tv before I call a repair guy because lets face it, they can charge whatever they feel even if the part are cheap or its a simple to fix. It's time to upgrade anyway, that flat screens been calling me. hopefully I can get some ideas and what to do.

I fixed mine with help of this site. I needed the 2 convergence amps and 1 resistor on that board was bad also. I done what Premtech said and that was to unplug the power to the convergence amps an turn TV on well it stayed on looked like **** but that led me to change the amps. Search google for a pic of these STK392-040. Then you can look at back of your tv they hook to the convergence board. Unplug the biggest connector on it see if it turns on. If it does you need both amps, and need a dvom to check the low ohm resistors on the board. Or take it to someone that can solder it all up and check the board. Also saw where the flybacks can have cold solder spot.

Assuming it is not hardware but soft settings...
1) Check and make sure that your TV does not have the timer set.
The Timer feature allows you to set a day and time for the TV to turn on automatically and the device and channel to display when it switches on. If the TV is already on at the requested time, the TV automatically tunes to the channel you designated in the Timer menu.
When the Timer turns on the TV, the following message is displayed: "Press a button for the TV to stay on." Press any button on the remote control within five minutes if you wish the TV to remain on.
Note: The TV clock must be set before you can use the
Timer feature (see preceding page to set the clock).
On/Off
Press down arrow / up arrow to enable or disable the Timer.
2) If not working, try SYSTEM RESET. Press SYSTEM RESET button on the front panel with pointed object (e.g. straight paperclip). TV turns off, green LED flashes for about 1 minute. When it stops flashing turn the TV on again. All settings other than Parental Lock need to be set again using the manual.
3) TV RESET. If all else fails for soft error. Your manual describes this last resort for soft type error. It could be hardware problem needing more expertise.

I have rear projection tv sharp 55u-wp7h. Unable to turn on tv due to view timer automatic turn on. what cause that and how to fix the problem?

I'm having same issue with same TV. It powers off after about an hour and red power light starts flashing. Only way to power back on is by unplugging TV and waiting a while, then plugging it back in, but then the TV will turn off again after a few more minutes, red light flashing again. I've checked the sleep timer and it is turned off, so any other solutions to this problem? All capacitors on power board look fine (not blown). I've read it could be solder joints in power board need to be resoldered.

Don't know what buttons on back of camera are for.

Besides the auto-flash mode, you can select fill flash, flash off, self-timer, and nighttime-view with or without flash.
Press the MODE-SELECTOR BUTTON until the desired indicator appears on the LCD PANEL.
c3015.gif Fill flash and flash off modes remain selected after you take the picture. To cancel the selection, press the mode-selection button or close and reopen the lens cover/flash to return to the auto-flash mode.
Fill flash
c3014.gif When bright light indoors or outdoors comes from behind the subject (backlighting), dark shadows (especially on faces) may occur. Use fill flash to lighten these shadows.
  1. Open the LENS COVER/FLASH to raise the flash and to turn the camera ON.
  2. Press the MODE-SELECTOR BUTTON repeatedly until the FILL-FLASH INDICATOR appears on the LCD PANEL.
  3. Frame your subject within the VIEWFINDER EYEPIECE.
  4. Partially depress the SHUTTER BUTTON. When the FLASH/CAMERA-READY LAMP turns off and the fill-flash indicator on the LCD panel stops blinking, fully depress the shutter button to take the picture.
Flash off
c3013.gif When you do not want to use the flash, especially indoors where flash is prohibited, such as in theaters and museums, or when you want to take twilight scenes or distant subjects that are beyond the flash range, or capture the ambiance of existing light, use the flash-off feature. Use a tripod or place the camera on another firm support, and use high-speed film because the shutter speed in these situations will most likely be slow.
  1. Open the LENS COVER/FLASH to raise the flash and to turn the camera ON.
  2. Press the MODE-SELECTOR BUTTON repeatedly until the FLASH-OFF INDICATOR appears on the LCD PANEL.
  3. Frame your subject within the VIEWFINDER EYEPIECE.
  4. Press the SHUTTER BUTTON to take the picture.
Self-timer with auto flash
c3016.gif Use this feature to include yourself in pictures.
  1. Use the TRIPOD SOCKET to attach the camera to a tripod or place it on another firm support.
  2. Open the LENS COVER/FLASH to raise the flash and to turn the camera ON.
  3. Press the MODE-SELECTOR BUTTON repeatedly until the SELF-TIMER INDICATOR appears on the LCD PANEL.
  4. Frame your subject within the VIEWFINDER EYEPIECE.
  5. Press the SHUTTER BUTTON. The SELF-TIMER LAMP will glow and then blink during the last three seconds of countdown.
    • To cancel the self-timer selection before the shutter releases, close the flash.
    • The self-timer automatically turns off after the shutter releases.
Night-view with flash
c3012.gif In this mode, the camera balances the flash and existing light exposure so you can take beautiful pictures of people at sunset or at night. Use a tripod or place the camera on another firm support, and use high-speed film because the shutter speed at night will most likely be slow.
  1. Open the LENS COVER/FLASH to raise the flash and to turn the camera ON.
  2. Press the MODE-SELECTOR BUTTON repeatedly until the NIGHTTIME-VIEW INDICATOR with flash appears on the LCD PANEL.
  3. Frame your picture in the VIEWFINDER EYEPIECE.
  4. Press and hold the SHUTTER BUTTON for 12 seconds without lifting your finger. Note: If you remove your finger from the shutter button before 12 seconds, the shutter will time out immediately.
  5. After 12 seconds, release the shutter button to take the picture.
Night-view without flas
c3011.gif In this mode, you can capture the natural existing light of city-night scenes or fireworks at night. Use a tripod or place the camera on another firm support, and use high-speed film because the shutter speed at night will most likely be slow.
  1. Open the LENS COVER/FLASH to raise the flash and to turn the camera ON.
  2. Press the MODE-SELECTOR BUTTON repeatedly until the NIGHTTIME-VIEW INDICATOR without flash appears on the LCD PANEL.
  3. Frame your picture in the VIEWFINDER EYEPIECE.
  4. Press and hold the SHUTTER BUTTON for 12 seconds without lifting your finger. Note: If you remove your finger from the shutter button before 12 seconds, the shutter will time out immediately.
