About 6 mos ago my unit started to emit a foul odor. It smells organic like a lake or something. It isn't constant but I can't get it to go away! I bought new plates and filters since mine were pretty old. I have cleaned it thouroughly with alcohol and nothing worked. When I put a new clean plate in, it smells ok for about 2 mins then it starts to smell. HELP. I know sometimes the ozone can react badly with somethings (like Paint fumes) but I can't imagine what it could be reacting with, nothing has changed in my home. My house stinks and its embarrassing

Ionizers do cause a bad odor to happen. I work in the copier business and do work around machines that can cause an ozone to happen when there are ran. Copiers like ionizers can cause an ozone to happen because the air particles are being electrically charged. The smell isn't good to be breathing in as well.
The Consumer Products Safety Commission is going to be making a decision about the health effects on ionizers by the end of the year. Their decision can effect selling ionizers all together.
This industry should have been regulated years ago and after what happened to Sharper Image this year due to their arrogance it isn't doing the industry any favors. They went out of business because of Consumer Reports findings and tried to sue them for it.
If you really want the air in your house cleaned, the best way to do it is using a hepa filter.

I have a Classic Living Air model XL-15C. I keep hearing a loud rattling noise from inside. I believe the noise is coming from the (yellow light) fuse-located in the middle right side of the unit. I also noticed the fuse in upper left corner of the unit (which I believe lights up green) is not on -Would the rattling sound be due to the fuse needing to be replaced? Can I replace both fuses myself?
