If you are on radio then super sound eq is only functions allowed to use but while using the other functions they are all lit up and are allowed to be used.

I have an old Denon DC-30 hi-fi system. When playing CDs, the music comes through loud and clear but the vocals are 'muffled / muted'. Can anyone suggest whatv the problem might be.Many thanks.

If a wide range of music comes out ok, I would dare say it is just some setting that is turned on, and or the EQ has been adjusted, maybe removing the mid tones where most vocals are. So have a look for any DSP (digital sound processing) options or EQ (Equaliser) and adjust them and see.

The word protect is on my stereo and i cant seem to use cd,tape player,or radio. and the power will not go off

Hi Anita,

Protect is an error code for short and or overload. This will appear once the processor sense a malfunction either on the power supply or on the load (high chance is the output IC). DIY steps are as follow to determine where the fault is : 1. Allow the unit to cool down for an hour. Give proper ventilation and keep away all obstruction from the vent to have a sufficient air flow. 2. Disconnect one at a time the speakers, inputs, from the unit while powering it on.

If the unit back to normal again then you've confirmed that any of the above caused the error code. If #1 is the caused, you have to check also the exhaust fan(if installed), clean it as much as possible, replaced if faulty. If #2 is the caused (speaker) check the wire and speakers for short, (input) check the RCA cord for short or replaced if necessary.

If the above simple fix didn't cure the error code, you should need help from friends that can perform this steps. Now after removing the cover, you have to concentrate first on the power supply board. Look for bulged electrolytic capacitor. Leaky capacitor will affect the regulation of the supply and will trigger the error code. Look for dry joints. Check it also in the pre-amplifier stage, main output board where a big heat sink is located. Next disable the output amplifier stage by disconnecting the supply. If the unit come out, make some re-soldering on the board, spot the cold solder and dry joints and then try to connect again. If the error code appear again, high chance that your output IC is faulty but still to be confirmed. Using the disoldering pump and soldering iron pull-out the output IC from the board then try the unit. If the error code disappear, confirmed that your IC is faulty. After trying the abovesteps-by-steps guide and still the symptoms persist this is the time for you to send it to repair shop. Remember that your unit has a lot of parts and only some basic steps have done, leave the expert to troubleshoot the entire unit.

Give a thumbs up if you find it useful.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

Sony ICF-CDK50 (under counter kitchen clock radio) just installed, everything works fine except for sporadic intermittent beeping (3 to 5 beeps). Instructions give no clue as to cause or solution.

sorry, I can't shed much light on this problem, but it appears to have been fixed. We played around with setting the time, although it didn't need fixing and with the timer.

I have just bought a Technics SH 8046 computer graphic equalizer WITHOUT an instruction manual,HOW DO I PROGRAMME IT!

Darren Kelly-themasterofthrowdown...I've had mine since they came out in 1985. Here's what you do...Each of the 4 channels on the upper right function as an individual equalizer. You set each channel one at a time. So, you have the ability to change channels on your e.q. without resetting your faders(you just push ch. 1 2 3 or 4) and the sound of the music will change according to how you set ch 1 2 3 or 4)DON'T UNPLUG THE SH-8046 WHILE THE MUSIC IS PLAYING OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR CHANNEL SETTINGS -ALL YOU BLUE LINES WILL END UP STRAIGHT ACROSS AND YOU'LL HAVE TO RESET THE 4 PROGRAMS (AGAIN) you don't have to set all of them*--Now, you set them with your finger (sweeping it up and down on the touch-screen (REMEMBER TO PUSH THE (LOCK) BUTTON FIRST)you have to unlockit it...then you have the ability to adjust you frequencies(the blue lines)once you have a good sound, YOU PUSH A NUMBER...say, 1...then push MEMORY then push 1 again...AND CHANNEL 1 will be set ---do the same thing for the other channels --IF YOU PUSH THE L or R button you can set the E.Q. channels different from each other (if desired --it's just an extra function...and both settings will appear on the screen. But I just keep mine both the same(Left and Right). When you record music(like I do - being a Musician) it is important to be able to listen to the play-back-SO YOU HAVE TO PLUG THE CD RECORDER BACK IN TO (PLAYBACK ON THE REAR OF THE sh-8046-(PUSH (TAPE) TO LISTEN TO YOUR TAPE RECORDERorCD RECORDER)to hear what you recrding sounds like.PUSH -SOURCE- TO GO BACK TO REGULAR PLAY MODE---If you ever walk in and cut you system on and nothing happens, check to see if on SOURCE or TAPE-(rec eq) on the bottom right is supposed to make the music sound better, push it to cut it on/off when you make tapes/CD's the red light should cut on ...Reverse --flips your EQ settings upside down(not such a useful function)....I guess that's all I can tell you, this is the only EQ I need for my overall system and I haven't bought another one for the mixer. IT HAS NEVER MALFUNCTIONED IN 25 YEARS -- I'M USING IT RIGHT NOW FOR MAKING PROFESSIONAL SOUND QUALITY CD's. SO HAVE FUN! Darren Kelly- themasterofthrowdown@yahoo.com

Cd player problem

From your brief description it sounds like there is a faulty component in the CD detector and pre amp section of the CD side of your sound system.

The Radio has its own separate Radio Frequency detecter circuitry and pre amp section so thats why the radio is OK.

There is no quick fix until the CD section can be inspected and the item causing the fault replaced..

Cheers From YUBEUT..
