Ultimate care 2 washer not spinning - not coupler

I checked the coupler and it seems to be intact, and the motor runs, but when coupled to gearcase, it makes noise and does not spin. Where to next?

My model is lsq8520jq0 if it makes any difference.
Thanks!

I took it off. The rubber middle shows no stress and both white plastic pieces have all teeth intact and the shaft to the motor/gearcase is snug. I now have the transmission off. The clutch casing has a little play up and down on the drive shaft. Is thi normal? I am trying to figure out if I need a new transmission or what. If I rotate the coupler clockwise, the clutch plate and drive shaft do not always rotate with it, like it's missing some cogs in the crank. Is this possible? Any other suggestions?

The plastic piece above the clutch plate has both "fingers". Other than a little black mark, it seems ok. When I rotate the motor coupler after it has engaged the clutch plate, the gears seem to jump and do not always rotate the plate and shaft. If the clutch plate is raised to the highest point away from the gearcase, it continually engages.

It was the gearbox. I lucked out and found a new one pulled from a damaged machine for $52. Thanks for the help!

when you checked the coupling, did you take it off and look at it or just look at it from under the machine?

The transmission has to complete several revolutions before it engages the "spinning gear" but once engaged it should continue to turn the clutch plate as long as it is turned the same direction.
before suspecting the transmission i would first check the plastic piece above the clutch plate.Ultimate care 2 washer not spinning - not coupler - aca822b.jpg

The tub on my Whirlpool ultimate care will not spin or agitate, but the motor seems to be running fine and it fills and drains properly. Is there any way to know wether the problem is with the motor...

Tip the washer back and look in the middle of the motor and transmission. More times then not when a motor couple breaks you will see pieces of it on the ground as well.

The cabinet comes off by removing the two screws on the back that go in at a angle. The contorl panel flips up and the two gold clips pop out to release the entire cabinet.

This makes it easier to take the motor off to change the motor coupler.

Good luck with your repair friend

After the washer drains, it acts like the transmission kicks in to spin the tub, but it will not spin. If I reach into the tub and give it some encouragement, it will start spinning but very, very slowly....

This is most likely a failure of the plastic couplers / rubber isolator between the motor and gearcase. This assembly is designed to fail during an overload condition, but they often just wear out over time. If you are mechanically inclined, it's not a difficult repair to make.

---UNPLUG THE WASHER FROM THE ELECTRICAL OUTLET---
1. Remove console
2. Remove 2 gold clips at rear of top
3. Unplug lid switch harness
4. Rotate the cabinet up a few inches at the rear and pull it straight off
5. Near the floor at the front of the machine, you'll see the pump, motor, gearcase assembly
6. Remove the 2 large metal clips that hold the motor to the gearcase (you might have to disconnect the motor wiring connectors
7. Rotate the motor / pump downward so the end of the motor facing the gearcase is pointing up / out so you can see it.
8. You should see evidence of a failed coupler... rubber and / or plastic pieces
9. Pry the broken plastic couplers off of the motor and gearcase along w/ whatever's left of the isolator (black rubber)
10. Install new parts (probably need to get these at your local appliance repair shop)
11. The tricky part is realigning the couplers and isolator so you can push everything back together. Be patient... once it's pushed back together, reinstall the large metal clips, motor wiring connectors, etc.
12. Put the cabinet back on, being careful that the rear corners are pushed inward so they engage on the base tabs
13. Install everything else in reverse order of removal
14. Plug it in and listen to her purr...

Good luck.

Will not agitate motor runs whirlpool lsq9610jq0

It sounds like you may have a broken motor coupling. This is the most common cause of the symptoms you are describing. Whirlpool manufactured top loaders use a motor coupling in place of a drive belt and are known as "direct-drive" systems. No agitation, or spinning, associated with a grinding noise are the usual symptoms. The washer should still have the ability to drain, however.

The following link explains how to access the coupler and replace it, if necessary:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3574231-replacing_a_motor_coupling

The part number is included with the instructions I provided. Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites are reputable and offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites I listed also include helpful exploded view parts diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you need. If you do not wish to order parts on line, use the part numbers I provided and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. The coupler is usually sold as part of their in-store inventory. The average cost of a motor coupling is only about $15.

Another cause would be a failed gearcase (transmission). I would recommend checking the motor coupling first, however. If the coupler is still intact, please let me know. I can give you guidance on how to replace the gearcase, if necessary.

If you have any questions, or if the symptoms I describe do not match the problem you are experiencing, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Washer motor spins but the TUB does not (intermittent)

If the motor is running and the tub is not spinning you must remove the motor and inspect the drive coupling.
One of the 2 plastic pieces could be stripped or cracked.
If the drive coupling is intact, proceed to the clutch on top of the transmission.
Replace the clutch linings.

if you hear the motor running while it is supposed to be agitating or spinning then it is most likely the direct drive coupling between the motor and transmission.43f18ab.jpg9bd1c44.jpg if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.  Mike
