HELP ME JVC GEEKS! Spring problem keeping faceplate on....

Be patient please, I don't know what all the parts names are...OK, faceplate is off, there's a front holder plate on the actual receiver that comes off with 4 tiny screws. On the front lower left side of this plate is the wheel/latch mechanism that keeps the faceplate attached. The internal spring here keeps popping off. I have sent the piece to JVC which they merely re-attached. It keeps popping OFF! Of course now my warranty is over and I have no recourse. My stereo is in my Jeep which means in the summer months the top's off and I must constantly remove the faceplate. It stays on for 5-6 detachments but then I must re-set the spring. The upper post of the wheel/latch is simply not long enough to stay sunk into the corresponding hole and with the on/off motion of the faceplate it jimmies the spring loose and off it comes. Is there any way to glue, melt, FIX this recurring problem....???? Thanks to anyone that can offer some suggestions! Tess

GREAT IDEA with the needle....thanks!! The straw idea would be great too but it needs to be more rigid than a straw and I cant find any PVC narrow enough to fit. I'll try the needle tonight!

AWESOME, thanks again...now Im excited since the **** replacement Sony is, well, **** :(

This might seem ridiculous but try heating up a needle that is no more then half the size of the nub and sticking it in the dead centre of the nub, once its cooled down cut off however much of the needle you have to and see if that works, an even more ghetto way of fixing it would be shoving a small straw over the nub to extend it.
good luck

First thing is to make sure the cause. Do you have clock or any display? Is it a new installation? If so, check wiring. If failed, then the face plate itself could be bad. Call customer relations. the phone number is in the user manual.

Please check if the connector of the faceplate and head unit don't have dirty or bended pins, these can produce false contacts between them and can produce fails as the one you have, if this is OK, maybe you have a bad faceplate or head unit.

there is a ribbon wire that connects the faceplate contacts behind the faceplate that always go bad on all radios with rotating faceplates. you can probably find this part on ebay or on parts.com or by jvc.
