Have you tried to "restart" the GPS by pressing the reset key at the back of the GPS ?
Usually, the media files (pictures, videos, music, text) are loaded (copied from your source/PC) to the T-Flash (SDHC) card ... and inserted into the GPS. The GPS device will recognize these files (in their appropriate formats, e.g. music WAV or WMA9 files, movie AVI, WMV, ASF files, eBook TXT files, pictures JPG, GIF, BMP, PNG files) and display the selections in their (respective) interface screens.

You do not download music to the GPS, put music files onto a SD card and then put that card into the GPS. You have to remove the Map SD card to do this so you cannot play music and use the GPS at the same time.
Take the SD card out and put a different one in with mp3 music files on it and you can use it as a mp3 player. DO NOT use the original SD card as you will delete the data that is necessary to use it as a GPS. I don't understand why anyone would want to use this as a mp3 player. Sound quality is terrible.
Your music and pictures need to be installed onto a SD memory card. Take an empty card and copy the MP3 or pictures onto the card. Install the card into the GPS. Use the correct player (for pics or MP3) and see if it detects the music on the memory card.
It seems like it works the same way if you were to put music or photos onto a Palm. It may need a special folder on the card to read the photos or MP3s. I would put it into the GPS first, let the GPS format it, and see if it creates folders for them.
you need a sd card. load the music onto the sd card and place in the sd-slot provided on the x1-03. it's on the right side marked "SD". hope this helps
