I would try connecting computer speakers to the front headphone connector (if available).

It will look weird, but you can get some loud and good looking computer speakers these days.

I want to connect external speakers to tv

If this unit has audio output jacks then these would be connected through an amplifier to provide your external speakers. Caution: Do not open the tv and connect additional speakers to installed speakers because you'll blow the small audio amp in the tv. I have seen this attempted many times

CAN WE CONNECT EXTERNAL SPEAKERS TO SONY KV-XJ29M50 TV

Check whether there is an audio out RCA type sockets at the rear side of the TVm marked as Audio Out. If so, you can connect these sockets to any exterenal audio amplifier, by connecting Av cable in between devices, and can listen audio from external speakers. Picture of AV cable is shown. Keep free its yellow pins. Use red and white.

I just sold my surround sound system and now I can't get the on board speakers to work.

Just check the rear of the television if by chance you have left any cable still connected to the audio output jack. If there the TV might be trying to redirect the audio to an external device not present. Sometimes it could also be a simple setting to be changed , . Check if you have a switch at the back of the TV stating External or Internal speakers. From the manual i got

A/V Receiver: The TV can detect audio connections on the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT jack and the right (red) analog AVR AUDIO OUTPUT jack.
Note for Analog A/V Receivers: When you disconnect an analog A/V receiver, manually change the Speakers setting to TV to hear sound from the TV speakers.

Press Menu on the remote-> Goto AV
Select Audio by pressing the right key
Under that the first option of Speakers -> select and set to TV.
Only then will the TV speakers play the audio.

Can i connect external speakers

gjrob,
You can connect external speakers with you model only if you have an external source of sound such as a receiver. This model does not have speaker outputs to directly connect speakers but it does have audio out connections that can send the sound from the tv to another source like the receiver.

On the back of your tv on the left there are connections listed under "Out". There is where you will find the audio out connections (red and White).

Want to add an external speaker to TV

If you have audio out RCA jacks then you can hook up some computer speakers that have RCA jack inputs. If you don't have audio outputs and your TV has a HOT chassis then you won't be able to do it. If your tv has a switching power supply then you can install a jack to TV speakers, so they disconect when you hook up your other speakers, if you try and hook up speaker to the TV speakers then the impedence will change, and your audio output IC will get hot and short out.

but look and see if there is a switch on the back of the tv that sayes external speakers, if so us that and you book self speaker will work, also check in the menu under audio for this same setting, if none of these are there look at the back again this might be a audio out jack that is made to go into a amplifier

Tvs are wired differently these days. Your old Zenith for example probably had a selector switch that allowed you to change from internal or external speakers, bandpassing the audio from the internal amplifier to the audio out connectors. Your Sharp on the other hand may be controlled by customer menu to perform the same function as the external switch. Go into the menu and sub-menu of the audio and see if it gives you any choices for selecting internal or external speakers... If it doesn't it probably will not bandpass the already amplified signal, which means if you want to listen to your Tv on those external speakers you'll first have to pass the audio sample through an amplifier.
Hope this helps.
