Question about Uniden GMR-1558 / 2CK 2-Way Radio

Short Battery Charge

I purchased two of these units in March 2008 with NI_MH batteries. I use them to maintain contact with my wife while operating equipment at some distance from the house. Battery dies after only about two hours of being in ready mode. Is this normal? Can I increase battery charge time by decreasing volume when in ready mode? Will I get better service with AAA batteries? NI-MH are very expensive.

Hello Dave2794875,

According to manufacturer specifications the NiMH rechargeable batteries should provide about 12 hours of operating time assuming a 90/5/5 operating cycle (90% standby, 5% receive, and 5% transmit). Theoretically, decreasing the volume can help somewhat but should have a minimal effect.

If you are only seeing two hours of standby time then you are definitely not getting the specified amount of time. This could be indicative of a problem with the charger or the battery pack or both.

Using disposable alkaline AAA batteries, you should see an increase in operating time because alkaline batteries have more capacity and last longer then rechargeable batteries. However, if yu do a lot of operating the cost of disposable AAAs can add up fast. For most users the rechargeable batteries are much less expensive in the long run. If you only use the radio occasionally then alkaline batteries are the way to go.

Hope this helps,
Ken

My Panasonic modelkx-tg4741will only charge on one charging stand out of four. the base will not charge. I installed new batteries in each phone

1. Check the power supply from the wall outlets being used for all phones and check the wiring connections to the phones.

2. These phones can only use Nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries. Don't use some other type of rechargeable battery such as a Ni -Cd rechargeable battery. Check that the battery installed in all the handsets is the Ni-MH type.

3. Clean the contact points on the charging stands and base unit.

4. Remove all the batteries from the handsets and clean the battery contact points.

Taking Care Of Your Laptop Battery

  1. Normally, a new battery pack comes in a very low charge condition and must be fully charged before use. Refer to the user manual of your portable electronic equipment for charging instructions.
  2. A new Dell Vostro A860 Battery needs to be fully charged and fully discharged or “cycled” as much as five times to condition them into performing at full capacity.
  3. Your equipment may report a fully charge condition in as short as 10 to 15 minutes when the new Dell Vostro 1015 Battery is being charged for the first time. This is a normal phenomenon especially for Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cad) and Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) chemistries. When this happens, remove the dell vostro 1015 battery pack and let it cool down for about fifteen minutes then repeat the charging procedure.
  4. “Conditioning” (fully discharging and then fully charging) is necessary so as to maintain the optimum performance of a sony vgp-bps8 battery, and is recommended at least once a month particularly for Ni-Cad and Ni-MH batteries. Failure to do so could result in reduced charge capacity and can significantly shorten the sony vaio vgn-fz battery pack’s useful life. Lithium Ion batteries do not require conditioning.
  5. It is normal for a acer aspire 1410 battery pack to get warm when charging and during use. However, if the acer aspire 1410 battery pack gets excessive hot, there may be a problem with the portable electronic equipment’s charging circuit and should therefore be checked by a qualified technician.
  6. Rechargeable batteries undergo self-discharging when left unused for long periods of time. This is normal particularly in the case of Ni-MH and Li-Ion chemistries. For best results, always store a battery pack fully charged. It should be removed from the equipment and kept in a cool, dry and clean place.
  7. The amount of runtime a hp 510 battery produces depends on the power requirements of components in your electronic equipment. This could be the hard drive setting, screen intensity and back-lighting on notebook computers, the liquid crystal display (LCD) screen and floodlight feature in a video camcorder, or the tri-mode communications network of a cellular phone. Always refer to your equipment’s user manual for power management settings.

How to CHARGE CORDLESS DRILL

First, you should know your battery is a Ni-CD / NI-Mh or Li-ion battery. If it is a Ni-CD / NI-Mh battery, please fully discharged and fully charged it to prevent "Memory effect".

If it is a Li-ion battery, please charge it before you use it.

Please keep in mind that, please fully charge a battery when you store it. And, charge it again every two months.

If your old battery is dead, you can replace it with a new one. Ryobi Power Tool Battery

The following table summarizes how AA batteries perform in different types of use. Type of Use Alkaline NiCd Ni-MH Oxyride Photo Lithium Most economical when taking more than 30 pictures per month Poor Good Good Poor Fair Most economical when taking less than 30 pictures per month Fair Fair Fair Fair Good Heavy use of flash, frequent pictures Poor Good Good Fair Good Heavy use of video Poor Good Good Fair Good Heavy use of Live View Poor Good Good Fair Good Overall battery life Poor Fair Fair Fair Good Low temperature/winter use Poor Good Fair Poor Good Infrequent use (without dock) Fair Fair Fair Fair Good Infrequent use (with dock) Fair Good Good Fair Good Recharge batteries No Yes Yes No No Solution three: Make sure that your batteries are completely charged Follow the steps below for your battery type: Ni-MH rechargeable batteries Ni-MH batteries lose charge, or self-discharge, at a rate of one to two percent per day, whether they are installed in the camera or not. This means that if a battery is fully charged, after several weeks, the battery will be low or dead even if it was not installed in the camera or if it was installed in the camera but no pictures were taken. Ni-MH batteries are best for those who use the camera frequently and recharge often. The amount of charge that Ni-MH batteries can hold gradually decreases because of usage, aging, and lack of maintenance. To maintain your batteries at maximum capacity, "condition" them when they are new or have not been used for over a month. Follow these steps to maintain (condition) your batteries:
  1. Completely discharge the batteries by using the camera normally until it will not operate.
  2. Recharge the batteries.
  3. Do this three or four times.
NiCd rechargeable batteries Nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries lose charge or self-discharge at a rate of one percent per day. Store NiCd batteries in a cold place such as the refrigerator or freezer to minimize the loss. To store in a cold place, place the batteries in a tightly sealed container to keep the moisture out. Before using them, warm the batteries to room temperature. The amount of charge that Ni-Cd batteries can hold gradually decreases because of usage, aging, and lack of maintenance. To maintain your batteries at maximum capacity, "condition" them when they are new or have not been used for over a month. Follow these steps to maintain (condition) your batteries:

Alkaline, Photo Lithium, and Oxyride non-rechargeable batteries Make sure that the batteries are new and have not been used for anything else. . Solution seven: Try a new set of batteries If you have tried all the solutions described above but your batteries still do not last very long, try a new set of batteries. If the old batteries are damaged, a fresh set of batteries will solve the problem. Batteries can be damaged in the following ways:
  • NiCd and Ni-MH batteries can be damaged by over-charging. After a battery has been recharged, do not try to add additional charge to the battery by sending it through another recharge cycle before using it.
  • Batteries can be damaged by dropping or sudden impacts. Even if there is no apparent external damage, the rechargeable battery could later develop an internal short or leak while in the camera and cause damage.
  • If batteries have become wet, they may short out and will not work properly.

My camera just does not seem to hold a good battery charge. I use fully charged batteries and this also happens with Duarcell too. I am only using the camera in the "on" selection.

Some digital camera **** the life out of batteries, especially the older ones, even when off. It stores info like date and time etc. I take the batteries out when I am not using it for a while. True it is a pain resetting the time but it saves the batteries. Also go for the top line rechargebles,
