This is a common problem with the T20 & T30 series Thinkpads. The problem is with the power management chip on the motherboard. The pm chip regulates & controls the power input & usage, allows the machine to switch from AC to battery, and controls the charging. Unfortunately, you will have to replace the motherboard in order to fix it.

Most, if not all shops will replace the entire motherboard versus fixing it or replacing the chip. I've tried repairing just the chip, but only had about a 20% success rate. The bigger problem is that you can't get the chip, and IBM support won't or can't tell you what it is (make, model, part number,etc..) The chips I used were from non working boards that I had. So, with that said, yes you can get it repaired, but the motherboard will have to be replaced. If you want to fix it your self, or just get the motherboard yourself I would suggest checking Ebay for the board. You can get a decent deal, and save quite a bit of money by getting the board there instead of having a shop get it for you. Any of the T30 series boards will work.

Hello! It seems that you have a problem with the laptop charger connector. It maybe in short circuit. You can try to look for some electronic workshop that works with reballing, BGA solder, etc., that might change it. In Portugal we have some, so I think in other countries you can find them to.

Is there any way to get past the EC power restriction foir BIOS FLASH...My L675D-S7049 Toahiba Laptop had a DEAD (Totally) battery due to a friend...AC shows input but NO CHARGING with new battery (OEM)...

The bios will and does not affect battery charging. Battery charging is carried out before the system and is a switch mode charger on board before the processing. If it required the processor to work and a bios, it would not charge when switched off!
I would suspect the OEM battery for the flashing light but the laptop should switch on with just mains power.
Has it been overheated?

I have an acer aspire 5050 and the computer works fine except for the port that you need to charge the battery. When the battery is low, you plug in the computer and it doesnt read the charger,...

It's has a colder solder or bad connection at the power jack - Acer's are notorious for this problem. It's a bad design. They have a tendencies to break easily if you tug too hard on the cable. The only way to fix this is to dissect the entire laptop and re-solder or replace the power jack.

Y530 laptop is saying "plugged in, not charging," when unplugged, computer immeditatly shuts off.

You have a faulty battery. Replace and charge as instructed with the replacement. Should resolve the problem. If the computer detects a faulty cell pack in the battery it won't try to charge it.

My acer aspire 5315 doesnt charge properly.

Hi,
I'm sorry to say that your initial fears are correct and the pin that the adapter connects to in the laptop is loose. This is a common problem with laptop's and can be easily dealt with.
Now I'm not going to tell you to open the laptop up and de-solder the adapter (unless you want me to).
Because this is a fiddly job and you have to order the correct adapter i recommend you take it to a reputable repair store and have them replace the adapter for you, don't let them tell you that you need a new motherboard as this is not the case at all, adapters can and do get regularly get fixed and is not that expensive.

Good luck.

Plugged in, not charging inspiron 1521

Hi,

This is a known issue with the AC adapter. If you are under warranty Dell would replace the AC adapter which will fix the issue. If not you may need to purchase one. Also do make sure you have the latest BIOS update on the laptop.

Latest BIOS
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R178138&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1521&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=13136&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=3&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=242484
Before updating the BIOS make sure you unplug all the USB devices and restart the computer once, and only then start the BIOS update.

Hope this helps. Please rate your feedback!
Thanks,
VJ

Run A BIOS UPdate For Your Make/ Model...
Your Laptop Doesnt want to recognise it because it is not an OEM part... BIOS Update should have a fix in it for that.

Dell Inspiron 2200 Charger Malfunction

Try to turn off the computer and remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook. Turn on the computer with just the charger plugged in. If it doesnt turn on. you may have a bad power port.

If it has no power/charging issue since that happened except that the indicator light doesnt turn on when you plug in the charger, you may just need a bios update. Click here. That's the bios update for the inspiron 2200 from dell's website. You should have at least 30% charge on the battery and the ac adapter should be plugged in so you can run it. The computer will restart and will come back normally after this. I'd suggest that you backup your files before running this.
