DLP won't fire up...

TvTech_ Appreciate any help you may be able to offer. I have a Sammy DLP HLN437W - I replaced noisy color wheel about 7 months ago it was was working great with nearly 15,000 hrs on the orig Phillips bulb. Last week there was an electrical storm - a BR breaker released and the TV went off - nothing else. Even the Comcast DVR stayed on along with house lights, etc. TV was plugged into a decent/fused surge protector - it didn't trip off. I figured it was a coincidence the TV went out - that the old bulb finally gave up. I was getting the green 'lamp' light blinking for about 30 sec cycling three times , then it would go to all three lights blinking (indicating bad lamp). So I got a newer Philips E20 vented lamp (100w/120w w/ adapter) when I plug  in TV I get ONLY the 'lamp' green light blinking continuously - not cycling to refire - only green light blinking?? I called DM where I got the bulb - suggest it MAY be the ballast? My question: How can I determine between a bad 1) ballast 2) Power source or 3) DMD (other) ??? Just so I purchase one part instead of several to fix my set. Thanks! Bill casa404@gmail.com     I'm having the same problem as well. I replaced the bulb (same one from DM.com) to no avail. I then replaced ballast, hoping it was the issue. However, the new ballast did not correct the problem. What would be the next step: power supply, DMD or take the set in to an authorized Samsung repair facility (I don't really want to take the set in & pay full retail for parts)?

Thanks,
rw

Highland Electrix TV Repair Advice lo300v PagePower supply may be faulty
The Psu are Just like any Psu using SMPS(chopper), so use normal PSU fault finding techniques
Start with , Any power from secondary of chopper transformer, at the diodes) usual PSU voltages are 5v,3.3v 12v (the 12v feeds the CCF tubes power generators)
If yes the psu ok, If no check for 320v across mains smoothing capacitor
If 320v ok but no output, check for shorts on the output lines (schottly diodes)
If the PSU is running and there are any leds glowing on the front
check to see it the flurecent tubes (on each side) are glowing
they usually have their own supply generators powered by 12v from PSU

Well there are two different problem posted in there , apart from the storm they do not have much in common.
You should not replace tv parts without testing them, it can cause more troubles.
tell me how many times the led is flashing

Samsung dlp the picture is all shadows with dark green/black colors after replacing with new color wheel..what is wrong? Is it a bad color wheel?

no you need to adjust the color wheel to factory specs by getting into the service software. The color wheel has to be timed to the engine.

White spots on samsung DLP tv

DLP/mirror chip is going bad. A common problem on Sammy TVs after 2-3 years. Chip is user replaceable (try samsungparts.com or ebay) for about $150-200. Sammy was (last year) repairing the DLP White Spot problem for free. You MUST talk to ECR (executive customer service) to even think about getting that consideration--forget the standard CS people. Don't know if they are still covering this out of warranty in 2010.

No Picture but sound

if you have a dlp with the 267888 color wheel, the wheels cant be replaced as RCA no longer makes them. If you use one of the other type color wheels you can get a replacement at the following link. They would need the model number of your set as The D52W19 isnt a dlp and doesnt have a color wheel. So just let them know what the model number of your set is.

Ballast or color wheel next?

The color wheel will normally spin-up even for a brief moment when the set is powered up. I have not seen a color wheel go out with a lamp. I have seen a ballast go bad with a lamp. I would replace the ballast first. You did not state wheather the color wheel was noisy or not. On the Samsung DLP, the color wheel is normally very noisy before it is gone. I hope this will help you.

Flashing in Blk,Wht, and a little color

Sounds like maybe your color wheel needs to be replaced. If you have noticed a humming noise in conjunction with the intermittent colors, then that is most likely the issue.
My 51" Vivitek started to hum loudly about 2 months ago and I kind of ignored it ,but it got so loud and annoying I had to do something.First changed the bulb and then bought a color wheel at www.vancebaldwin.com .Login as guest and then enter your model number into corresponding box. They have a few Vivitek parts.
I replaced my color wheel myself and it works great!
I'd be happy to help any way I can.
Good luck!
