Question about RCA HD50LPW42 50" Rear Projection HDTV

Picture is very dark will not brighten

I have an RCA hd50lpw62a, the picture is very dark. Making adjustments to the picture do not help. Someone told me the lamp could be weak, others have told me that the lamp is either good or bad no inbetween. Hate to by a lamp just to see if that is the problem.

Yes, this April,2005 RCA model #HD50LPW62A was a floor model at Wal-Mart and the picture has been dark for a few years(couldn't adjust dark picture) then yesterday turned it on and heard a loud pop and then a weird noise with sound but no picture so we took the back off and noise sounds like it is coming from lamp area when we take the lamp out we don't get the noise and the lamp looks good no indications it's blown so what else could it be? Checking the lamp for continuity indicates it's open.

I have the same problem, changed the light and picture is still dark. Have you found a solution or at least have a diagnosis?

We changed the lamp too.Picture is very good now. There isn't a way to test lamp because it is filled with gas.when changing lamp make sure you put everything back on covers etc. before checking to see if it works.

The Picture on my HD-52G886 Model is really kind of dark I can still see the picture and sound is fine but a little to Dark when I try to brighten it then its really dull white.

Changing the contrast will also help brighten your screen. For best results, try changing the contrast and the brightness, to find the perfect combination for your needs.

Have a hitachi rear projection 50" TV (model# 50EX12BA). The screen gets dark when it gets dark in the room where the TV is (but it brightens if a light near the TV is turned on). Also, the colors...

From what i can find, you need to adjust the convergence of the individual projectors. One person said you need to adjust them once a month for optimal conditions, but also said once a year will suffice. I have an extra blue image, and although i was able to clean i dont know how many years of grime off the lenses and the mirror, i lack a remote that will operate the menu. I only have one universal remote by RCA that will operate the channels and volume, but not the input (im using S video input) nor the menu functions. You may have to buy a Hitachi remote (1-800-Remotes wants $40 for it), but i will try to get a better universal one and will post back if i have success.

no those tvs came with a black otuer screen that have rough ridges . If your screen is blue, someone may have replaced it with a dark colored plastic. You can get replacement screens at the following link, They are exspensive though.

UNABLE TO BRIGHTEN PICTURE

Your CRT coolant needs to be changed. Thats whats giving you the dim picture. You can also clean the projection mirror on the inside this often helps. But the coolant will need to be changed to get back the bright crisp picture. Hope this helps.

Auto Convergence failed becuase PS52800 failed to detect one of my Sensors?

The overscan would certainly cause auto convergence failures since the beam the CRT's shoot out are on the corners and upper center and lower center. Being too dark can also cause issues since one of the CRT beams might not be bright enough for the sensors to register. I would first have someone adjust the vertical size if the top and bottom of the frame are somewhat cutoff.
