Question about DVD & Blu-Ray Players

1 Answer

Samsung DVD Camcorder SC-DX103 stops recording and "disc error" message appears. Happened twice with 2 different discs. Once this happens I am unable to retrieve the previously recorded data, finalize it so it can be played on my DVD player or do anything. Others on line have detailed the exact same problem and total non caring attitude encountered by Samsung customer service. Is there any data recovery software or physical shop/store/business that can retrieve my previously recorded pictures?

Its maddening to never know if the disc is going to let you finalize. I'm trying to figure out if the disc has to be named first? or if the calender in the camera has to be somehow uninterrupted (i.e not remove the battery and cause a calender reset in between shoots?) I'm grasping but would really appreciate any ideas as I too have lost precious moments.

I had the same problem and Samsung customer service replaced the unit twice. All 3 cameras had the same problems. I got disc errors and then the battery would overheat and I couldn't shut it off. I sent the 3rd one back and was promised a refund over a month ago. I'm still waiting. Called 3 days ago and was told the check was cut 8 days prior. I'm still waiting. Don't buy this product. It's a piece of garbage and Samsung customer service is horrible. I've never been more frustrated.

(1)Formatted in Video mode for Ridata-RW mini DVD.

(2)When recorded 2 short (10 sec) parts it played back on camera, was able to finalize and played in Media player on a laptop. Everything works!

    (3) When un-finalized and try to record a third piece, was able to record and play back on the camera, was able to finalize but could not see it from DVD drive on laptop - only first two pieces were available.

    (4) When un-finalized and recorded fourth piece, was able to play it back on camera and finalize.

    (5) When finalized, on PC could still see only the first 2 pieces, on camera- received a Disk Error message - could not see or do anything with the disk -even to format!!!

For some strange reason I got kicked out of the chat session and someone else took it.

    Here is the manual

Here is what I found on page 8:

You cannot use the following discs.

    - 5 inch (12cm) CD/DVD discs

    - CD/CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-ROM/DVD+R (Single Layer)/DVD-RAM/DVD-R (Dual Layer), Floppy Disk, MO, MD, iD,

Have any of these disks been loaded into your camcorder?

Does it finalize if the AC adaptor is installed

Sometimes a disc will play and sometimes there is a message, "cannot play the disc". This has happened with 4 or 5 different discs. Is there a "disc cleaner" I can purchase?

Yes. I use this Maxell product which works quite well:

http://www.amazon.com/MAXELL-CD345-Laser-Lens-Cleaner/dp/B000001OMA

It's a good price, I paid $16.99 for mine!

You could not format the disc due to error detection, whats wrong

You can get this if you´re using RAM-discs previously recorded/formatted on a different recorder. Clean the disc REALLY WELL and try inserting several times, it may pass.

Pay TV in Australia will record "no problem" BUT BUT when it is a pay per view or Box Office etc it will be blocked in a similar way as Macrovisin that is recognized in the encoding of the recording device that the signal is passing through. The result point blank displayed you are not allowed to record this program or it is blocked or distorted part of the way through the recording etc...

Recording Error "Can not record on this disk/E4 54037380

I had that exact same problem. I would record a bunch of dvds with no problems for months and then some and one day it doesn't work. Only this showed up E4 EA03738B. However I've found the solution. Instead of going out and returning the recorder or buying new dvds just purchase a Laser Lense Cleaner. It's a dvd cleaner. Works like a charm.

See if a shop will clean the optical assembly for you at a reasonable cost. Also, if you have the "finalization" feature turned off, this will cause a disc to show that message...accordianman

Samsung R155 Recording from VHS Issues

The reason why you are having this problem is because you haven't finalized the disc. In able for you to play that Burned DVD that you have you need to Finalized the disc. Finalizing a recordable optical disc means writing the disc's lead-in (the Table of Contents or TOC) and lead-out information (blank data that fills up the unused space at the end of the disc) so that a DVD player will know where the various tracks begin and end. Without the TOC, a conventional DVD player will not be able to read the contents of the disc. Once the disc is finalized, no more information can be written to it. Finalizing takes about two or three minutes. To finalize a DVD-RW/DVD-R: 1. Press the Menu button with the disc stopped. 2. Select Disc Manager and press Enter or the right arrow. 3. Select Disc Finalize and press Enter or the right arrow. You will be asked twice if you are sure that you want to finalize the disc. Select Yes and press Enter. Once the disc is finalized, you cannot delete entries from the record list. After being finalized, the DVD-R/DVD-RW (video mode) operates in the same manner as a DVD-Video. Recorded discs must be finalized in order to play back in non-Samsung DVD players. A DVD-RW disc that has been recorded by DAO (disk-at-once mode) in a PC cannot be unfinalized. A DVD-RW disc that has been recorded in Video Mode on a non-Samsung recorder cannot be unfinalized by a Samsung recorder. A DVD-R disc cannot be unfinalized. Note: Finalization does not apply to DVD-RAM. If you cannot finalize a DVD-R or DVD-RW disc, make sure that Disc Protection is turned off. If you are still having difficulty, you may try calling technical support of SAMSUNG. Note: Do not turn the recorder off while it is finalizing the disc. Data on the disc will be damaged if the finalization process is interrupted.
