Red shadow on PT-56WX33G projection tv

Hello. I have a panasonic projection TV. All of a sudden last night there was a red halo (shadow) effect to the left of everything else. I tried the convergence utility in the menu but could not line it up. I saw some of your other posts and it seems like I might need to replace the convergence IC. Do you think this is my problem? Could you tell me what the cheapest way to fix this would be? I am pretty handy and I do not want to put much money into the TV.

Thanks for your help so far.

I installed the convergence ICs and inspected the resistors (which all
looked fine). I turned on the TV and the picture was fantastic after
going through the convergence settings. I turned off the TV and then
tried it an hour later. Now there was a blue shadow on all the images
and I was not able to correct the blue through the TV settings. I
opened the TV up and now one of the resistors looks blown. I assume
this probably blew one of the brand new convergence ICs that I just
    installed.

Please help, what should I do now? Replace the resistor and try
one of the old convergence ICs? I am thinking that since my original
problem was that there was a red shadow, that one of the old
convergence ICs is still good. Also, can I get the resistors at radio
shack? Should I replace only the resistor that looks blown or all of them?

Thanks. It looks like the R7001 resistor is definitely blown. Should I replace all of the following feed resistors:

    R7001, 7003 and 7005
which should all be 82 ohm 2watt resistors. The other three are R 7002,
7004, and 7006 they should all be 120 ohm 2watt.

Do you know where I can purchase these?

  • gdandy Aug 07, 2008

After second look I noticed that it was actually resistor r7016 that was blown. I replaced r7011 through r7016 which were all 2.2 ohm 2watt resistors. The TV is working again! Thank you for all your help. You provide an excellent service!

Hello, the TV was working fine for about 2 weeks then it all of a sudden turned off. The LCD light on the front blinks 3 times when I tried to turn it on.

When I unplug/plug the TV back in it will work for about 15-25 minutes perfectly and then shut off again.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? I tried re-soldering in the convergence ICs but the problem still occurs.

The cheapest way is to replace both convergence Ics they are both STK392-110 and you can get replacements at the following link, and they provide free instalation instructions with pictures, plus free online instant messageing while you do the actual repair. Its a very easy repair. Here's the link.

I would recommend changing all the low ohm feed resistors as they are most likely out of tolerance or blown. Your ICs may still be good.

I would replace them all as they resistors all have tight tolerances and theres only six of them, so I would just replace all of them. Depending on where your located there may be a large electronic distributor that may have them. They link above should also have them. I am not sure if radio Shack or Frye electronics would have them or not.

Pt-53wx53 Panasonic Projection TV Turns off

OK< likely one of the new chips are bad or when soldered in you shorted pins at that time----3 blinks is short protection and you are going to find ONE of the light blue 2.2 ohm resistors is open (usually discolored in middle).

Having changed hundreds of chips in this model once in a while you get a new one that is bad---replace both again.

How did you get at them----remove the board or pull the light box?

Convergence problem TV won't let me align the

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs. To get fixed either call in a local TV repair company or goto sites such as Tv Repair Kits to get a repair kit with instructions. Here is there link.

They have put together complete kits for most models that include the parts, step by step photo instructions, repair assistance, etc.

HELLO OUR 53" PANASONIC REAR PROJECTION TV JUST WENT RED LAST NIGHT AND THEN WENT OFF AND IT WILL NOT COME BACK ON ANY IDEAS. IT TRIEDS TO START UP WITH A BLINK AND THEN OFF AGAIN

This model TV has a gasket on the red picture tube that faces down. The coolant leaks from between the picture tube and the lense assembly. When this happens the red tube over heats and shorts out internally and usually cracks the glass. You will probably find coolant all over the circuit board if you open the back panel of the TV.
Call a good TV Tech to repair this. It will cost over $500 if the picture tube is still available.

Panasonic PT-53TW53; Red shadows appear and then the t.v. shuts down.

The convergence output IC's have failed. Only fix is to replace them. These are large amplifier IC's bolted to heatsinks and have a high failure rate in all projection sets.

Panasonic PT-53TWD63, TV will not turn on, Red power light blinks

It is most deffinately a convergence chip issue. The die for no reason. They can be bought online for around $10 dollars and anyone with experience with soldering can replace them pretty easily. I have done it.
